J&K Government Formulate New Media Policy

The Jammu and Kashmir government is formulating a new media policy to include emerging platforms under the ambit of the law. The scope of this policy will expand from social media platforms to multimedia news websites.
Responding to a cut motion by Pulwama MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, the J&K government defended the policy and said that it is a means to align with the evolving media and broadcasting landscape of the state. The policy also seeks to adhere to the standards set by the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Government of India.

New Media Policy 2020

Five years ago, the New Media Policy 2020 of Kashmir met criticism from the media and no support from the opposition political parties. The 2025 policy is another attempt at regulating media and entertainment inside a troubled territory of the country.
“(Srinagar Press Club) was operating from a building provided by the Estates department… Due to a dispute, the building is now temporarily occupied by J&K police.”  states the government of J&K while addressing media concerns about the journalist club of the state.
