An international aid flotilla trying to deliver assistance to the war-hit area of Gaza was reportedly attacked overnight by drones in international waters of Greece. On Wednesday, after the attack, one navy ship was sent for assistance against the attack by 12 drones.
The Global Samud flotilla is currently using about 50 civil boats to try and break Israel‘s naval blockade of Gaza, which currently has many lawyers and activists, including climate activist Greta Thunberg.
The attack occurred in international waters, 13 nautical miles off the Greek island of Gavdos, said Marikaiti Stasinou, a spokesperson for March to Gaza, Greece, part of Laila. All passengers are safe, even after drones exploded over the vessel, according to international media. However, according to GSF, the attack affected 11 vessels and blamed Israel and its allies for “explosions, unidentified drones, and communication jamming,” saying that it would not be intimidated and would continue to sail.
The Italian defence minister Guido Crosetto told media that the sea convoy had been targeted by “currently unidentified perpetrators,” as he expressed “strong condemnation” of the incident.
As Israel forces push deeper into the heart of Gaza City, placing a high risk to the lives of Palestinians, hopes are that the growing pressure on Israel for a ceasefire would mean they would not lose hope.
