Indian Embassy in Qatar Issues Safety Advisory Amid Regional Tensions

The CSR Journal Magazine

In response to escalating tensions in the Gulf region, the Indian Embassy in Doha has issued a safety advisory for Indian citizens residing in Qatar. The advisory, released on March 5, emphasizes the importance of adhering to safety guidelines provided by Qatari authorities. The Embassy has explicitly instructed Indian nationals to remain indoors and limit movement to essential activities only. Furthermore, individuals are advised to avoid areas near windows, balconies, and other exposed locations while relying solely on official channels for updates.

Emergency Helpline Established

The Indian mission in Doha has announced the establishment of a 24-hour helpline to assist Indian nationals during this period. The helpline numbers provided are +974 55647502 and +974 55362508, and inquiries can also be directed to the Embassy via email. Additionally, the Embassy has noted that air travel has been significantly disrupted, with operations at Hamad International Airport temporarily suspended due to the closure of Qatari airspace. Qatar Airways has also halted flights, providing updates to passengers regarding travel rescheduling.

Coordination with Local Authorities

The Embassy is working closely with Qatari officials and community leaders to ensure the safety and well-being of the Indian diaspora in Qatar. The advisory comes as part of a broader response to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, which has seen increased military activity following significant attacks earlier this week.

Kuwait’s Emergency Visa Measures

Separately, the Indian mission in Kuwait has highlighted newly implemented emergency visa measures by the Kuwaiti government. In an official statement, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced an automatic, fee-exempt one-month extension of visit visas for individuals currently in Kuwait. Additionally, residents who are outside Kuwait and have exceeded their permitted absence will receive an automatic three-month extension without the requirement for in-person processing.

Details and Implications of Kuwait’s Announcement

The measures will be applied electronically and are aimed at alleviating the difficulties faced by foreign nationals amid the challenges currently confronting Kuwait. These adjustments are anticipated to remain in effect so long as the ongoing situation warrants, and the Ministry has urged residents to stay informed through official channels for any further updates. The announcement aims to provide some relief for individuals who may be unable to return to Kuwait due to the existing circumstances.

Background of the Regional Conflict

The advisory and subsequent measures come after a recent escalation in hostilities in the Middle East, which has reached its sixth consecutive day. This latest wave of conflict was triggered by US and Israeli strikes on Iran that resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and other prominent figures. In retaliation, Tehran has launched counter-strikes aimed at American military installations in Gulf states, as well as Israeli targets throughout the region. The situation remains fluid, prompting embassies to safeguard their citizens and implement necessary precautions.
