Indian Embassy Issues New Advisory for Citizens in Saudi Arabia

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Indian embassies in Saudi Arabia have issued a new advisory for Indian nationals following significant flight disruptions caused by the suspension of services by Indian airlines. This advisory was released on October 10, 2026, amid ongoing security concerns in the region. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh has urged citizens to remain calm and vigilant during this period and to stay indoors in case of any aerial attacks.

It has also recommended that individuals follow instructions from local authorities disseminated through official channels. Air India and Air India Express have halted flights to and from Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah until October 17, 2026. Similarly, Akasa Air has suspended its services to these cities, while IndiGo has cancelled flights to and from Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, and Medina until the same date.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has confirmed the suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, although flights at other major airports are still operational, albeit with reported disruptions. In light of these circumstances, the Embassy has advised Indian nationals to maintain regular communication with their respective airlines to confirm the latest status of their flights.

For those needing to leave Saudi Arabia urgently, it has recommended considering flights from neighbouring Gulf countries such as Qatar and Bahrain, provided they can obtain the necessary visas.

Guidance for Umrah Pilgrims

The Consulate General of India in Jeddah has issued a separate advisory specifically for Umrah pilgrims travelling to and from Jeddah and Medina. The advisory encourages passengers to verify flight details with airlines before heading to airports and to stay in contact with travel agents, tour operators, and Umrah service providers regarding any cancellations, rescheduling, or alternative travel arrangements.

The Consulate has been actively liaising with airlines and local authorities to assist Indian nationals affected by these disruptions. Both the Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah have set up 24/7 control rooms to provide assistance to Indian nationals.

The Embassy has also stated that Indian citizens who entered Saudi Arabia on visit, tourist, Umrah, or business visas but are now unable to leave due to flight unavailability will not incur fines for overstaying. Those whose visas have expired are advised to exit the Kingdom as soon as flights become available.

Recent Attack Highlights Security Concerns

This advisory follows a tragic incident on October 10, 2026, when an attack at Riyadh airport resulted in the death of Indian national Mohammed Yousef Ali. The Indian Ambassador, Vipul, along with Embassy officials, attended his funeral on October 12, 2023, in accordance with the wishes of his family, and assured them of ongoing support.

The Embassy has reported that four Indian nationals injured in the attack remain in intensive care, while four others are receiving treatment in normal wards, and three have been discharged. Officials from the Embassy have been visiting hospitals to maintain contact with the injured and their families.

In response to the evolving security situation and risks associated with safe flight operations, airlines including IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India have announced the extension of their service suspensions. Affected passengers have been informed that they can seek full refunds, with Akasa Air also offering the option to reschedule flights without additional charges.
