The CSR Journal Magazine

Olympian Sift Kaur Samra made history by winning gold in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions individual event at the Asian Shooting Championships. Beating China’s Yang Yujie, Samra fired a fantastic 459.2 in the final to claim gold. The trio of Samra, Anjum Moudgil, and Ashi Chouksey also topped the podium in the team event with 1,753 points. This is Samra’s fourth Asian Championship gold. She topped the qualification match with a score of 589 and entered the eight-shooter final as the No. 1 seed.

Samra was unstoppable

Shriyanka Sadani, another Indian shooter, topped the qualification round but was not able to qualify for the final as she was competing for “Ranking Points Only.”

World record holder Samra registered 151.0 in kneeling and 156.2 in prone. In the elimination round, she remained unstoppable, leading throughout, although her Chinese opponent gave a tough fight, finishing just 0.4 points behind.

Ashi Chouksey from Madhya Pradesh entered the final in fourth position but ended seventh with 402.8 points. Anjum Moudgil, who hails from Chandigarh and is a two-time Olympian, secured 22nd place.

Samra led the charge

In the team event, Samra led the charge and brought gold for India alongside Anjum and Ashi. Samra’s 589 was backed by Ashi with 586 and Anjum with 578, helping the trio claim the top spot ahead of Japan (1,750) and South Korea.

In the trap event, National Games champion Neeru Dhanda stood out with her performance, winning the gold medal.
