Father Carries Baby’s Body in a Bag to DM Office, Hospital Sealed After Tragic Newborn Death

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a tragic incident in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, a grieving father approached the District Magistrate’s office carrying the body of his newborn baby who died during delivery at a private hospital. Vipin Gupta, the father, alleged that the hospital repeatedly increased charges and delayed treatment, which contributed to the loss.

Hospital Hikes Delivery Fees, Delays Treatment

Vipin detailed his ordeal, stating that initially the hospital demanded Rs 10,000 for a normal delivery and Rs 12,000 for a C-section. However, as his wife’s labor progressed, these fees were raised multiple times. “I arranged the money by 2:30 am and even asked them if they are incapable, I should take my wife elsewhere. They went on increasing the charges further. I asked them to begin the delivery process and that I would arrange for more money, to which they firmly demanded money first and only then would they operate on my wife,” he said in an interview with ANI.

Adding to the tragedy, Gupta accused the hospital staff of forcing his wife onto the street after their child died. “My newborn child died. They then threw my wife out on the road. We then went to a surgeon,” he recounted. Unable to accept this injustice quietly, he took the deceased baby’s body in a bag and went directly to the District Magistrate.

DM Seals Hospital, Orders Better Care for Affected Family

Following the incident, the District Magistrate acted swiftly by ordering the sealing of Goldar Hospital. A social media post from the DM’s office said, “In the case of the newborn’s death, the district administration has sealed Goldar Hospital. Admitted patients are being shifted to the District Women’s Hospital.” The Assistant District Magistrate, AK Rastogi, also inspected Srijan Hospital to check on the condition of Vipin’s wife and instructed hospital authorities to provide better care. “The district administration stands with the affected family,” the statement added.

A video of Vipin narrating the heartbreaking experience emerged, in which he explained that his wife was admitted by her relatives while he was traveling from Haridwar. “They called me saying that my wife’s condition was deteriorating. I told them to start the treatment, I was on my way,” he said. Despite paying Rs 8,000 upfront and promising the rest, he alleges that hospital officials were uncooperative. “This is not a bazaar,” he recalled them saying when he requested immediate treatment.

Fetus Died Due to Wrong Medication, Report Says

Reports from Amar Ujala revealed that after being thrown out from Goldar Hospital, Vipin’s wife, Ruby, was rushed to another medical facility where doctors informed the family that the fetus had died due to incorrect medication administered earlier.

This tragic case has raised serious concerns about medical negligence and hospital conduct in the area. The prompt response from district officials to seal the hospital underlines the gravity of the situation as investigations are ongoing.
