800 people missing in Just 15 days in New Delhi; two-thirds are women and girls

Within two weeks of the new year, 800 people have been reported missing, as per the official data of Delhi police, raising serious questions on public safety in the Capital. As per the PTI news agency reveals that two-third of the missing cases are of women and girls, 509 girls and women went missing and 298 men went missing. On an average 54 people went missing every day in New Delhi alone.

Out of the total 800 missing cases, 191 are minors and the rest are adults. Currently, police has managed to trace 235 individuals, 572 are still missing

13 children went missing each day in Delhi

The data reveals that on an average 13 children went missing each day between January 1 to January 15. In the total number of minors missing, a maximum 146 girls are missing. 169 minors are teenagers aged 12 to 18. And of 138 were girls and 31 were boys. While police have safely rescued 29 girls and 19 boys, still 71 per cent of the adolescents are still untraced. 13 Children of age group 8 to 12 went missing, 8 boys and five girls. Police have managed to rescue only three boys. In the below 8 years missing category, nine children went missing, three boys have been rescued so far.

Mostly adults missing

In the missing list, maximum numbers of missing cases are of adultsIn January first half, 616 adults went missing, of which 363 were women and 253 were men. Police have rescued 90 men and 91 women, and 435 adults are still missing. In the year 2025, 24,508 people were recorded missing in New Delhi. 60 percent were women at 14,870, and 9,638 were men. Police were able to track and rescue 15,421 adults, but 9,087 were missing.

An analysis of 10 years from 2016 has pointed out a shocking trend in the increase in missing cases in New Delhi. As per records 2,32,737 people went missing, out of which 1.8 lakh people were traced, 52,000 cases remained missing.

The comparative study also reveals that the teenagers were at the highest risk, Since 2016, over 5,000  teenagers went missing each year. Last year alone, 5,081 teenagers reported missing, maximum were girls. The comparative figure clearly states that the year 2025 had maximum missing cases with highest women missing cases, 14,870.
