Just a day after India closed the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari in Amritsar, the Octroi Post at India-Pakistan International Border was shut for civilian movement by the BSF on Friday. No civilians will be allowed to visit the border at the Octroi Border Security Force post in Suchetgarh, RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir, which is also a popular tourist spot.
The Border Security Force (BSF) has stated that the retreat ceremonies were “scaled down” at Attari, Hussainiwala and Sadki along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab. The India International border runs from Jammu in the north to Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat on India’s west.
This is a retaliatory move by India following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people on April 22. The move highlights India’s concern over cross-border hostilities.
Pahalgam Terror Attack by Pakistan-based terrorist group
In a ghastly terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday, 25 tourists and one local resident were gunned down by a group of terrorists in the Baisaran meadow, popularly known as ‘Mini-Switzerland’. The terror attacks has been carried out by The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
This marks one of the deadliest attacks on our nation in recent years and has triggered a strong response from India, which has accused Pakistan of facilitating and promoting cross-border terrorism.
In a significant retaliatory move, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 with immediate effect. The suspension is expected to have a major impact on Pakistan, where a large portion of cultivated land depends on water from the Indus River system.
India Shuts Attari Border, delivers financial blow to Pakistan
India announced immediate closure of the Integrated Check Post at Attari within 24 hours of the deadly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam and served an economic blow to Pakistan. Foreign secretary Vikram Misri stated on Wednesday, “Those who have crossed over with valid endorsements may return through that route before 1st May 2025,” clarifying that the route will remain open for returnees only for a limited time.
Why Attari Border is significant?
Attari, located just 28 kilometres from Amritsar, is India’s first Land Port and the only permitted land route for trade with Pakistan. Spread across 120 acres and directly connected to national highway-I, the check post has played a crucial role in cross-border trade, particularly in imports from Afghanistan. The Attari-Wagah corridor has witnessed fluctuating figures in trade and passenger movement over the years.
In 2023-24, the land port recorded trade worth Rs 3,886.53 crore with 6,871 cargo movements and 71,563 passenger crossings. The Attari Land Port has long served as a critical trade conduit between India and Pakistan, handling a variety of goods. Key Indian exports through the route include soybean, chicken feed, vegetables, red chilies, plastic dana, and plastic yarn.
Pahalgam Attack
Pahalgam Attack
Pahalgam Terror Attack
Nadia, West Bengal: Grief and respect poured in from across West Bengal following the death of Indian Army Havildar Jhantu Ali Sheikh, who was killed in an anti-terror operation in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. A valiant soldier of the elite 6 Para (Special Forces), Havildar Sheikh hailed from Patharghata village in Krishnanagar, Nadia district.
His death came just a day after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, including three from West Bengal.
Political Leaders Condole Loss, Hail ‘Hero of Bengal’
The Trinamool Congress paid glowing tribute to the fallen soldier, calling him the “Hero of Bengal.” In a statement, the party said, “We pay solemn tribute to Havildar Jhantu Ali Sheikh of 6 Para, who laid down his life in the line of duty. A son of Bengal, he represented the highest ideals of courage, selflessness, and patriotism. His sacrifice will forever be remembered.”
Trinamool MP from Krishnanagar, Mahua Moitra, expressed her condolences and pride, noting that the martyr hailed from her constituency.
Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said the entire Trinamool leadership, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stood firmly with the grieving family. “At such a moment of loss, those engaging in divisive politics must introspect. The courage and sacrifice of Havildar Sheikh deserve nothing but honour and unity,” he remarked.
Leaders Visit Family, Urge National Solidarity
Tehatta MLA Tapas Kumar Saha visited the soldier’s home to meet with the family and offer his condolences in person. Photographs of the visit were shared on social media by the party.
Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam noted that Havildar Sheikh came from a humble background—his family dependent on marginal farming—and had made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family. The entire nation shares their pain,” he said in a social media post.
Islam also appealed against communalising the recent Pahalgam attack, stating, “Terrorism has no religion. Terrorists recognise no faith.”
Candlelight Rallies Across Bengal Mourn Pahalgam Victims
In response to the tragic Pahalgam attack, which took place a day before the Udhampur encounter, citizens across Kolkata and other districts of Bengal organised protest marches and candlelight vigils to mourn the loss of innocent lives.
Large gatherings of civilians, activists, and local leaders lit candles, held placards, and observed moments of silence in tribute to the 26 victims, calling for peace and national unity in the face of terror.
These gestures of solidarity underscored Bengal’s collective grief and resilience in the wake of back-to-back tragedies that have shaken the state and the nation.
Titan Company Ltd. inaugurated Titan Vanam, a cohesive afforestation initiative at Thorapalli in Hosur, Tamil Nadu; which has already transformed 45 acres of degraded grazing porambokku land into a budding forest with close to 120+ native species. Vanam, reflecting Titan’s sustained efforts towards improving green cover, was unveiled in the presence of Mr. C K Venkataraman, Managing Director – Titan, Mr. N E Sridhar, Chief Sustainability Officer – Titan, Tmt. V R Latha, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Krishnagiri, Mr. Dinesh Kumar, Collector, Krishnagiri District, Ms. R A Priyanga, Sub-Collector – Krishnagiri and Mr. Yashwant Ambulkar, Asst. Conservator of Forest – Tamil Nadu. The opening was also graced by representatives from Biotasoil Foundation, Medius Earth, local industry associations and community leaders.
Initiated in December 2024, the project began with immediate planting under the technical guidance of Medius Earth and the on-ground expertise of Biotasoil Foundation. To date, more than 208,000 saplings have been planted across two restoration sites at Thorapalli (33 acres) and Billanakuppam (12.5 acres). Baseline ecological surveys conducted identified 241 existing plant species, while targeted invasive species management has paved the way for healthy native growth in the region. This restoration was further supported by organic soil amendments, beneficial microbes, and carefully designed bio-fencing. With planting densities approaching 4000+ saplings per acre, Titan Vanam has the potential to emerge as India’s largest high-density polyculture afforestation project- sequestering an estimated 800 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent annually.
Beyond its carbon‑neutrality objectives, Titan Vanam is engineered to recharge groundwater, reduce soil erosion, enhance air quality and restore the region’s historic elephant corridor ecosystem.
Sharing his views, Mr. C K Venkataraman, Managing Director, Titan Company Limited, said, “Vanam is more than a plantation project—it’s a living blueprint for how industry can drive large‑scale ecosystem restoration. By integrating cutting‑edge science and sustained stewardship over 45 acres, we’re not just planting trees; we’re cultivating a carbon‑neutral future and a self‑sustaining forest that will thrive for generations.”
The unveiling at Thorapalli featured the ceremonial planting of 30 saplings by the Collector, Titan leaders, and local representatives. The event also included the unveiling of Titan Vanam’s signboard and species list, along with a technical briefing on soil and water management, invasive species control, and long-term monitoring. Titan has committed to caring for Vanam for the next three years, installing bio-fences, and conducting quarterly growth checks to ensure that the forest thrives. About 10–15% of the area is set aside for endangered and protected species such as Acacia catechu, Tricalysia sphaerocarpa, and Suregada angustifolia, as well as rare plants like Gloriosa superba (Tamil Nadu’s state flower), Ceropegia juncea, and Celastrus paniculatus.
Mr. N E Sridhar, Chief Sustainability Officer, Titan Company Limited, emphasized on the program’s impact, stating, “From barren Porambokku lands to a biodiverse tropical thorn forest, Titan Vanam exemplifies our long‑term vision for climate resilience. Over the next three years, we will rigorously monitor growth, expand community engagement and refine our species mix, scaling this model to other regions where environmental and social imperatives align.”
Sharing his views, Mr. Dinesh Kumar, IAS, Collector, Krishnagiri District said, “This plantation of over 2 lakh trees is a shining example of what meaningful public-private partnerships can accomplish. I sincerely thank Titan Company for their commitment to sustainability and commend Biota Soil Foundation for their knowledge, passion, and scientific approach in restoring this landscape with diverse native species. Let this initiative stand as a model, encouraging us to identify and rejuvenate more such barren lands across Hosur and Krishnagiri district.”
Looking ahead, Titan Vanam will set an iconic example of corporate-led afforestation through data-driven management, annual scientific reviews, and community involvement. Titan Company Ltd. invites stakeholders, researchers, and local residents to join in nurturing this living laboratory for a greener, climate-resilient future.

Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, an Indian spiritual and humanitarian leader, was conferred the Companion of the Order of Fiji, the nation’s highest civilian honour, by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu at the State House in Suva on Friday, April 25. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from across Fiji and the world, marking a significant moment in the country’s recognition of global humanitarian efforts.
Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai joins a select group of previous recipients, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu—signalling Fiji’s acknowledgment of not only political leadership but also contributions to social and humanitarian causes.
Who is Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai?
Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai is the founder of the One World One Family global humanitarian mission, which works across more than 80 countries to improve access to healthcare, nutrition, and education. From operating the world’s largest free paediatric cardiac hospital network to launching India’s first completely free medical college, his work focuses on serving underserved populations with compassion and without commercialisation.
In his acceptance speech, he expressed humility, dedicating the honour to the collective efforts of his global team. “This honour is a testament to the collective efforts of so many who have worked tirelessly to uplift and support communities across the country as well as the entire Pacific region,” he said.
His impact in Fiji has been most visibly realised through the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital, the region’s first state-of-the-art, fully free paediatric hospital. By offering advanced medical care at no cost, the institution has become a lifeline for thousands of families across the Pacific who would otherwise have no access to such services.
Beyond healthcare infrastructure, Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai’s Sai Prema Foundation has played a pivotal role in delivering humanitarian aid across Fiji. From mobile medical camps and school nutrition programs to educational scholarships and disaster relief, the Foundation has partnered closely with the Fijian government and communities to bridge critical gaps in public services.
His work in Fiji is part of a broader global mission spanning over 80 countries. A daily nutrition program under his leadership now serves over 10 million children, and his network of free hospitals and outreach programs offers millions access to healthcare without financial burden. Most notably, he established the world’s first completely free medical college in India, with a curriculum grounded in service-oriented medicine.
While such recognition is not uncommon for heads of state and political leaders, Fiji’s honouring of a non-political figure for social impact signals a broader acknowledgment of the role grassroots humanitarianism plays in nation-building.
Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai’s message—“Serve others as you would serve yourself”—remains the guiding philosophy behind a growing movement that continues to reshape lives not just in Fiji, but across continents.

The ambulance’s response time has also seen major progress in the state. It improved from 30 minutes in 2014 to 6.31 minutes by 2025.
Furthermore, the Yogi government has integrated real-time monitoring technology to ensure efficiency. This technology tracks ambulance locations and response times live. This allows for quick action in case of any delays.

Filmmaker Siddharth Anand who previously brought audiences Pathaan and War collaborates with producer Mahaveer Jain to produce ‘White’ which will serve as an international film release. The movie presents an intense worldwide narrative centering on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s crucial role to end Colombia’s lengthy 52-year civil war.
Through their partnership with Marflix Pictures and Mahaveer Jain Films alongside Peacecraft Pictures the film will start its principal production phase in Colombia during July this year. Montoo Bassi directs White as the film aims to show a dramatic yet unexplored modern peace-building period by blending authentic historical events with cinematic storytelling methods.
Vikrant Massey Transforms for Role of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Actor Vikrant Massey plays Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in the leading role which portrays the famous spiritual leader. Vikrant Massey gained popularity through 12th Fail and The Sabarmati Report but underwent drastic physical changes to portray the revered figure by extending his hair and developing a new appearance.
According to the production team Massey had his first encounter with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in 2023 during his role preparation process. The film will be released in both languages as English and Spanish for global viewership while it narrates an uplifting yet previously unknown tale about spiritual negotiations which resolved Colombia’s conflict.
A Story of Peace, Spirituality, and Diplomacy
The story of White revolves around Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s efforts to use spiritual wisdom and diplomacy to bring an end to one of the longest civil conflicts in history. By focusing on this little-known historical event, the filmmakers hope to showcase the positive impact of India’s ancient wisdom in the modern world, bringing a unique perspective to global cinema.
Aside from White, Vikrant Massey also has another exciting project, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, alongside Shanaya Kapoor. The actor’s growing reputation for transforming into diverse characters continues with this film as well.
Other Projects by Siddharth Anand and Mahaveer Jain
Siddharth Anand, who is a producer for White, is also making his debut on OTT platforms with Jewel Thief, releasing on Netflix this week. Mahaveer Jain Films, another major player in the White project, is working on the upcoming fantasy comedy Naagzilla, which stars Kartik Aaryan and is scheduled for release in 2026.
With its mix of historical relevance, spiritual depth, and compelling drama, White is poised to become a landmark international production. The combination of a renowned team, a gripping subject matter, and a transformative lead performance by Vikrant Massey ensures that White will not only entertain but also provoke thought on the power of peace and diplomacy.
Over Rs 12 lakh has been spent by the government on the upkeep of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb over the past decade. The information was revealed through a Right to Information (RTI) request where there was a sharp increase in government spending on the tomb of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb over the past two decades.
The RTI was filed by Pune-based activist Prafful Sarda. He stated that The information, disclosed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), highlights a sharp rise in annual spending on the monument, located in Khuldabad, Maharashtra.
Findings of the RTI
According to the information, the lowest expenditure on the tomb was done in the year 2005–06 with Rs 1,395. Similarly, in the year 2024-2025, Rs 5,35,988 was spent over the maintenance of the tomb. Between the financial year 2004 and 2014, a total of Rs 2,54,128 was spent for the renovation.
However, these figures rapidly increased to nearly sixfold in the subsequent period from 2014 to 2025. The amount the government spent over the maintenance of this tomb reached to Rs 12,24,104. According to the official data after the year 2013 the annual expenses for maintenance, security, renovation, and restoration of the Aurangzeb tomb have seen a dramatic increase.
Activist Prafful Sarda’s Statement
Prafful Sarda, commented on the findings, calling for transparency and accountability in heritage conservation practices. “This data raises serious questions about resource allocation and the changing priorities in preserving India’s monuments,” he stated.
“Instead of allocating increasing funds to preserve the legacy of a cruel Mughal emperor, both the state and central governments should prioritize the conservation of forts and historical monuments built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and other revered Maratha leaders,” Sarda emphasized.
History of Aurangzeb’s tomb
The Tomb of Aurangzeb is located in Khuldabad, Aurangabad district, Maharashtra, India. In notable contrast to other Mughal tombs, which are large monuments of Mughal architecture, including the Taj Mahal, at his own direction Aurangzeb is buried in an unmarked grave at the complex of the dargah or shrine of Sheikh Zainuddin.
The Tomb has become a symbol of political contention due to Aurangzeb’s historical legacy despite the simplicity of the tomb. This majorly includes his execution of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and the destruction of Hindu temples during his reign.
The Row over Aurangzeb’s tomb
In March 2025, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) submitted a memorandum to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb. They also demanded the removal of the site from the list of protected monuments. “Any memorial of Aurangzeb is a symbol of pain and slavery, so the grave should be demolished completely,” it said.
Nagpur violence
Following the VHP’s demand on 17 March 2025, communal violence erupted in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The right-wing Hindu organizations demanded the removal of the tomb. The unrest began after members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal staged a protest. During the protest they burned an effigy of Aurangzeb and chanted slogans. Over 105 individuals were arrested by the police.
CM Fadnavis blames ‘Chhaava’
Following the uproar in Nagpur Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis blamed the movie ‘Chhaava’ for the Nagpur violence. “After that (the movie), people’s emotions have been reignited. The anger against Aurangzeb is being exhibited in a big way,” he said. The film ‘Chhaava’ starring Vicky Kaushal, is a historical action film based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire.
Meanwhile, the RTI findings add a new layer to ongoing discussions about the legacy of historical figures and the public funds allocated for their commemoration.
Indian carriers announced on April 24 that their international flights to or from North America, UK, Europe, and the Middle East will now move through alternative extended route after Pakistan closed its airspace for Indian airline.
The decision comes after the Pakistan government announced immediate closure of its airspace to all Indian-owned and Indian-operated airlines following the Pahalgam terror attack which claimed 26 lives.
With Pakistan closing off its airspace to Indian carriers, airlines now face longer durations and higher fuel burn for westward international flights taking off from north India — factors that could lead to a hike in airfares. Airspace restrictions are likely to result in delays and rescheduling of flights on multiple international routes operated by Indian airlines.
Travel Advisory shared by Indian carriers
Air India and IndiGo issued updates on social media offering assurances to affected passengers.
“Due to the announced restriction of Pakistan airspace for all Indian airlines, it is expected that some Air India flights to or from North America, UK, Europe, and Middle East will take an alternative extended route,” Tata Group airline Air India said in an X post.
IndiGo shared on X, “Due to the sudden announcement of air space closure by Pakistan, a few of our international flights are being impacted. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and our teams are doing their best to help you reach your destination at the earliest.”
“A few of our international flights are being impacted. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and our teams are doing their best to help you reach your destination at the earliest. We encourage you to check the latest flight status. If your flight is impacted, please explore flexible rebooking options, or claim a refund through our website,” it further said.
A SpiceJet spokesperson told media that the airline’s flights to the UAE from North India will now operate via alternative routes. As a result, these flights will carry additional fuel to account for the longer flying time. However, the spokesperson clarified that there is no significant impact on SpiceJet’s flight schedules.
“In light of the recent tragic incident in Pahalgam, we are closely monitoring the situation using all available resources. On the morning of 24th April 2025, we proactively decided to reroute any flights expected to fly over Pakistan airspace as a precautionary measure. This has no significant impact to our operations and will not cause any inconvenience to our passengers. We will continue to assess the situation daily and make any necessary adjustments to our flight operations to maintain the highest levels of safety that are central to our operations at all times,” Akasa Air said in a statement.
Pakistan closes airspace for India’s airlines following Pahalgam terror attack
A day after the Pahalgam terror attack, the Pakistan government announced immediate closure of its airspace to all Indian-owned and Indian-operated airlines. Pakistan also suspended all trade with India, including goods passing through the country to or from third countries. As per a report by Reuters, the country has also objected to India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty.
The announcements were made after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to formulate the country’s response to India’s move to suspend the Indus Water Treaty and downgrade diplomatic ties after the Pahalgam terror attack. The meeting was attended by key ministers and the three services chiefs.
Pahalgam Terror Attack: India puts pressure on Pakistan in retaliation
In response to the Pahalgam attack, India has taken a series of strong retaliatory measures, including the closure of Pakistan’s airspace. On Thursday, India officially suspended the Indus Water Treaty of 1960, signaling a hardening of its stance.
India closed the Attari Integrated Check Post and revoked Pakistan’s access to the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme, instructing Pakistani nationals holding SAARC visas to leave India within 48 hours.
