Parnika India

Parnika India, a distinguished leader in the manufacturing & global export of exquisite women’s ethnic wear based out of Surat and a strong proponent of inclusive entrepreneurship, has further strengthened its social impact initiative through its Women Support Program, a dedicated effort to empower women entrepreneurs, especially those looking to build businesses from home. The initiative has already enabled over 10,000 women across India to begin their entrepreneurial journeys with minimal investment and maximum support.

Launched with the core mission of making women self-reliant and confident in their business pursuits, the Women Support Program offers comprehensive training in areas such as business development, time management, social media marketing, and digital customer engagement. These modules are specially curated to help homemakers, working mothers, and aspiring entrepreneurs operate flexible, home-based ventures with ease and confidence.

“As manufacturers, we have a unique opportunity to extend wholesale pricing and low-investment business models to women who wish to start from scratch. Our model ensures healthy profit margins even with minimal capital, allowing women to start lean but scale effectively. We’ve seen homemakers evolve into confident business owners with steady monthly incomes; their stories are a testament to what’s possible when intent meets the right opportunity,” said Vishal Pacheriwal, Managing Director of Parnika India.

To further assist these entrepreneurs, Parnika India provides a robust set of marketing tools, including professionally designed digital creatives, ready-to-use product catalogs, WhatsApp message templates, and content for social media promotions. These resources simplify the go-to-market process, making it easier for women to focus on selling and building customer relationships.

The measurable impacts of the program have been notable: improved digital literacy, greater financial independence, and increased social influence. Many participants have gone on to become local role models, encouraging other women in their communities to pursue entrepreneurship.

Looking ahead, Parnika India plans to expand the reach of the Women Support Program to empower over 100,000 women entrepreneurs by 2030. The initiative aligns with the company’s broader mission to make entrepreneurship accessible regardless of location, background, or financial resources.

Tata Memorial Centre Launches MenCan Initiative to Address Men’s Cancers

Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) proudly unveils MenCan, an innovative initiative by the Urologic Oncology Disease Management Group (URO DMG) focused on improving the lives of men affected by prostate, penile, and testicular cancers.

Rising Incidence of Men’s Cancers in India

According to the latest data from the Global Cancer Observatory (GCO) 2022, the incidence of prostate cancer is on the rise in India, with an expected 12.6 new cases per 100,000 people, adjusted for age. In 2025, India is projected to see approximately 41,736 new cases of prostate cancer. Testicular cancer is also on the rise, expected to reach 4,640 cases by 2025, while penile cancer is projected to account for 11,264 new cases in the same year.

Globally, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men and ranks as the 12th most common in India. It predominantly affects men aged 50 to 64. The Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI), published in 2020, forecasts a 10.9% increase in the elderly population (aged 60 and above), from 8.6% to 19.5%, by 2050.

With this aging population, the number of elderly men at risk for developing prostate cancer is also expected to rise. A recent Lancet Commission report has highlighted similar concerns. In India, nearly 40-50% of prostate cancer cases are detected in the metastatic or advanced stage, compared to just <10% in the USA and European continent.

Testicular cancertypically affects younger men (ages 14 to 44), and has one of the highest survival rates, even in advanced stages. This disease is rarer in India compared to the western countries.

On the other hand, India has the highest incidence of penile cancer globally, with 10,443 new cases registered in 2022. In urban India, the age-adjusted incidence of penile cancer ranges from 0.7 to 2.3 cases per 100,000 men, one of the highest rates worldwide.

Incidence in TMC & Need for Initiative

At TMC, the number of new prostate cancer cases has risen significantly. In 2021, there were 700 new prostate cancer diagnoses, while in 2023, this number increased to 900. Additionally, TMC addresses approximately 150 cases of penile cancer and 250 cases of testicular cancer annually.

Given the rising incidence of these cancers with many men often unaware of the risks or hesitant to seek medical help, it is crucial to implement initiatives focused on public education, and research.

The Need for Action

With TMC being one of India’s leading institutions dedicated to cancer care, research, and education, there is an urgent need to combat the growing burden of male cancers. Increased efforts in early, public awareness campaigns and advancing research are essential to addressing these health challenges and improving the outcomes for men affected by these cancers.

MenCan- A Lifeline for Men and Their Families

MenCan is a nonprofit and non-commercial initiative dedicated to address the challenges of these cancers that are often neglected but significantly impact men’s lives. “MenCan Initiative is an important step in tackling the rising incidence of cancer in men.

Through this program, we aim to educate men on the signs and symptoms of common cancers, the importance of regular health check-ups, and the various methods that can detect cancers at an early, more treatable stage,” said Dr. Amit Joshi at Tata Memorial Hospital.

Tata Memorial Centre’s (TMC) MenCan initiative has made significant strides in improving male cancer care in India through impactful activities and programs.

Key Focus Areas of MenCan:

  • Awareness and Education: Conduct educational programs and awareness campaigns to increase public understanding of male cancers, aiming to normalize discussions around men’s health.

  • Prevention and Early Detection: Organizing health camps, and educational programs to encourage preventive measures.

  • Patient Support and Advocacy: Offer emotional, psychological, and financial assistance to patients. In the last six months, the initiative has disbursed substantial funds to support essential treatment needs.

  • Survivorship and Rehabilitation: Provide long-term recovery and quality of life support through a specialised Survivorship clinic in TMC.

  • Research and Development: Facilitate pragmatic and practice-changing research to improve treatment outcomes in these men’s cancers.

MenCan’s Initiatives for Cancer Survivors

  • MenCan has hosted survivorship meetings for penile and testicular cancer survivors.

  • Launched MenCan Care, a virtual support group for patients and caregivers.

  • Established a Men’s Cancer Confidential Helpline (8451009760) to provide guidance and emotional support.

  • Development of India’s first campus navigation app to help patients navigate the 60 acre ACTREC campus.

  • MenCan intends to build a social media presence to spread awareness about men’s cancers.

  • MenCan aims to expand its operations to all Tata Memorial Centres across India, ensuring its support benefits a larger population of men battling cancer.

  • Mr. Shaan’s association with MenCan adds strength and visibility to our mission of building a healthier future for men.

Call to Action

“MenCan is more than just an initiative; it’s a beacon of hope for men facing these challenges. We urge everyone to join us in this fight by spreading awareness, supporting our efforts, and contributing to this cause.” says Dr Gagan Prakash, Prof. of Uro Surgery, TMC.

PM Modi warns Pakistan
PM Modi warns Pakistan

PM Modi

Three Maoists Killed in Bijapur Encounter; Operation Continues

Security forces battled Maoist insurgents in Bijapur district where gun battles killed a minimum of three Maoist combatants. The anti-Naxal campaign launched its operation on April 21, 2025, with the goal of neutralizing the combatants of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) which represents the military branch of the Communist Party of India (Maoist).

Military Forces Have Come Together to Fight Maoists

Security forces have surrounded Battalion 1 of the PLGA, whose members display exceptional training and discipline. The PLGA Battalion 1 represents one of the toughest Maoist units because it consists of 180-200 fighters. Military forces participating in the operation consist of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) as well as Bastar Fighters together with the Special Task Force (STF), state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Commando Battalions for Resolute Action (CoBRA). The Telangana Police Force extends their support to these operations which take place between two states.

The encounter at Karegutta hills started after intelligence reports suggested top Maoist leaders Hidma Madvi and Damodar were present in the area. The operation will extend beyond several days while security forces both search and investigate potential additional bodies.

In a Related Incident, Constable Lost his Life

A Chhattisgarh Armed Force constable lost his life during the week to an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion detonated by Maoist suspected militants in Bijapur. Security forces in the region face multiple ongoing difficulties, according to the latest attacks on security personnel.

The Union government has reiterated its commitment to eradicating Maoist insurgency by March 31, 2026, emphasizing the importance of sustained operations and collaboration between state and central forces.

Nexus: Bangladesh Legal Advisor Meets LeT Operative Following Pahalgam Terror Attack

Hours after Indian intelligence traced the brutal Pahalgam massacre to Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its proxy, The Resistance Front (TRF), a highly disturbing event has shaken regional security circles: Bangladesh’s interim government’s Legal Advisor, Dr. Asif Nazrul, reportedly held a meeting with LeT’s Bangladesh module chief, Harun Izhar.

The meeting allegedly took place on Wednesday afternoon within the Ministry of Law office in Dhaka. Sources within Bangladesh’s military intelligence confirm that Nazrul met with Izhar, a high-profile jihadist with a long track record of plotting terror attacks from Bangladeshi soil. Alarmingly, this rendezvous occurred less than 24 hours after the massacre that killed 26 Indian tourists in Pahalgam.

Izhar, accompanied by several known LeT operatives, has been a recurring figure in regional jihadist activity. His involvement in an aborted 2009 plot to bomb the Indian High Commission in Dhaka remains a dark blot in Bangladesh’s counter-terror records.

Adding fuel to the fire, Nazrul published a verified Facebook post shortly before the meeting, irresponsibly implicating Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and NSA Ajit Doval in the Pahalgam massacre. The baseless claims, devoid of any proof, were widely condemned as provocative and deeply insensitive to the victims’ families.

Meeting Surveillance Raises Security Red Flags

A senior officer from Bangladesh’s Army intelligence confirmed the meeting was recorded, though the content remains classified. “The presence of a wanted terrorist inside a government ministry is a grave concern,” the officer stated. “It reveals a potentially dangerous alignment between radicals and figures within the interim administration.”

Izhar is no stranger to law enforcement. With ties to Hefazat-e-Islam—a hardline Islamist organization—he’s been central to the radicalisation of many under the guise of groups like Manhaz. On March 30, 2024, a video surfaced online depicting him leading students in a pledge of allegiance to Hefazat’s cause, calling for jihad against India and Myanmar.

Izhar’s terror-linked activities trace back to 2009 when U.S. agencies flagged him after interrogating David Coleman Headley, a key planner of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Based on shared intelligence, Bangladeshi authorities arrested Izhar and uncovered plans to target both the Indian High Commission and U.S. Embassy Dhaka.

His arrest in 2013 followed a deadly grenade explosion at his madrasa, which killed three and exposed a cache of IED components in his quarters.

Pakistan’s Connections and Regional Radicalisation

During his time studying in Pakistan, Izhar built strong links with LeT leaders and other jihadist outfits. Under his influence, significant portions of Hefazat were radicalized, fostering a highly volatile extremist network across Bangladesh.

He also spearheaded operations under various banners—Towhidi Janata, Anti-Satime Rasul Andolon, and Kara Mukti Andolon—allegedly aimed at orchestrating jailbreaks for convicted extremists after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ouster.

According to intelligence reports, Izhar’s role escalated during Prime Minister Modi’s 2021 visit to Bangladesh on the occasion of the nation’s 50th independence year, where he orchestrated mass protests and demonstrations against Modi’s presence.

Former Information Minister Mohammad Arafath voiced serious concerns during a phone interview with NAI. “The interim government under Mohammad Yunus has not only released known extremists but embedded their sympathizers within the counter-terrorism unit and government advisory roles,” he stated. “With figures like Nazrul freely associating with terrorists, Bangladesh is inching dangerously close to institutionalised radicalisation.”

Fifty-nine people, including 27 women and 10 children, were burned to death, while 48 others were injured in the incident. The ground breaking hearing involves appeals filed by the Gujarat state government and several individuals convicted in connection to the case.

Bench Directs Submission of Detailed Compilations

The Supreme Court bench comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and Rajesh Bindal will hear the case. The justices have also instructed senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, representing one of the convicts, to submit a revised compilation of his arguments by May 3, 2025.

According to the bench, this compilation should include specific details on the charges against the convict. Furthermore, the findings of the lower courts, and his legal arguments supported by relevant evidence should also be added in the compilation. “Heading-wise details on charges against the convict, the findings of the courts below and his arguments supported by materials on record to counter them”, Reports.

Furthermore, the apex court has also directed counsel for other convicts and the Gujarat government, which has filed a counter-appeal, to submit similar revised preliminary compilations outlining their respective positions.

Two Days Allocated for Initial Hearing

Justice Maheshwari stated in the court order that the hearing of this complex matter is expected to take at least two weeks. As an initial step, the court will dedicate the entirety of May 6 and 7 to this case. Justice Maheshwari further clarified that no other matters will be taken up on these dates unless specifically directed by the court. The bench has also instructed the registry to seek necessary orders from the Chief Justice of India to ensure the uninterrupted hearing.

“Hearing of this matter would require at least two weeks. First, we will take it up on May 6 and 7 for the whole day and no other cases will be taken on these dates unless specifically asked by this court,” Justice Maheshwari said in the order.

The Godhra train burning incident

The Godhra train burning occurred on the morning of 27 February 2002. Over 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks returning from Ayodhya were killed in a fire inside the Sabarmati Express near the Godhra railway station in Gujarat, India. The coach (S-6) of the Sabarmati Express caught fire. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire remains disputed.

The Godhra Burning Train Incident
The Godhra Burning Train Incident

The Gujarat riots, during which Muslims were the targets of widespread and severe violence, took place shortly afterward. The Godhra train burning is a highly contentious event in Indian history. In the aftermath, widespread and severe riots erupted across Gujarat.

The Gujarat Riots 2002

The 2002 Gujarat riots, was a three-day period of inter-communal violence in the western Indian state of Gujarat. The riots were triggered by an incident at a train station and led to significant casualties and displacement. Following the initial riot incidents, there were further outbreaks of violence in Ahmedabad for three months.

There were further outbreaks of violence against the minority Muslim population of Gujarat for the next year. According to official figures, the riots ended with 1,044 dead, 223 missing, and 2,500 injured. Of the dead, 790 were Muslim and 254 Hindu.

Legal Proceedings and Appeals

Following the incident, the Gujarat High Court in October 2017 upheld the convictions of several individuals while commuting the death sentences of 11 people to life imprisonment. The Gujarat government has since appealed to the Supreme Court, seeking the reinstatement of the death penalty for these 11 convicts. Simultaneously, several other convicts have challenged the High Court’s verdict upholding their convictions.

The Nanavati-Mehta Commission report

Following the incident several inquiries have offered differing perspectives on the cause of the fire in the train. The Nanavati-Mehta Commission, appointed by the Gujarat government, concluded in 2008 that the incident was a pre-planned act of arson by a large Muslim mob. However, the Banerjee Commission, instituted by the Ministry of Railways, suggested in its 2006 report that the fire was accidental.

Later, the Gujarat High Court deemed the Banerjee Commission’s appointment unconstitutional and dismissed its findings. Following this an independent investigation by a non-governmental organization was conducted. The organisation’s findings also supported the accidental fire theory.

In 2011, a trial court convicted 31 individuals, sentencing 11 to death and 20 to life imprisonment. It also acquitted 63 others. Subsequently, in 2017, the Gujarat High Court upheld the convictions in October 2017, but commuted the death sentences to life imprisonment. This set the stage for the current appeals before the Supreme Court of India.
