Bisleri International Collaborates with Ministry of Earth Sciences for Coastal Clean-Up Initiative

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bisleri International has partnered with the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) to launch the Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar campaign, aiming to promote coastal cleanliness. This initiative, part of the company’s Bottles for Change corporate social responsibility programme, was conducted from 12th to 19th September 2026, culminating on International Coastal Cleanup Day. The project involved clean-up activities across 35 beaches located in nine states and two Union Territories, with the participation of over 8,235 volunteers.

During the campaign, a total of 21,418 kilograms of used plastic was collected, which will be channelled for recycling. This effort underscores the importance of responsible waste management, particularly in coastal areas vulnerable to land-based plastic pollution. The campaign aimed not only to clean the beaches but also to encourage a shift towards a circular economy by emphasising recycling and proper waste segregation.

Central to the Bottles for Change initiative is the belief that plastic should not be treated as waste but as a valuable resource when managed effectively. The collaboration seeks to foster a collective understanding that clean coastlines contribute to healthy marine ecosystems and support the livelihoods of coastal communities, which can be jeopardised by pollution.

Community Involvement and Support

Mr. K. Ganesh, Director of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at Bisleri International, stated that the health of marine ecosystems is vital for the welfare of coastal populations. He emphasised the necessity of addressing the growing issue of waste in these sensitive environments. The partnership with the MoES is designed to stimulate meaningful action against plastic pollution, advocating for community involvement in waste segmentation and recycling.

A spokesperson from the MoES highlighted marine plastic pollution as a pressing environmental issue. The two-year collaboration with Bisleri has an emphasis on responsible plastic waste management, aiming to embed practices that protect coastal ecosystems. Through this partnership, the initiative has linked beach cleanliness to everyday waste disposal habits, promoting public awareness regarding marine environmental stewardship.

The campaign gathered significant participation from citizens, institutions, and stakeholders, fostering a collective effort to maintain cleaner beaches and improve recycling practices. Such partnerships are crucial in motivating citizens to engage actively in sustainable practices that safeguard marine life and beach environments.

Impact and Future Directions

This coastal clean-up initiative is a reflection of Bisleri International’s commitment to sustainability. With over 50 years in operation, the company has established itself as a leader in the bottled water industry, maintaining stringent quality controls. The Bisleri Greener Promise, part of its ongoing sustainability efforts, focuses on recycling, water conservation, and community outreach.

The company operates more than 130 plants across India and has developed a robust distribution network. Their products, including packaged drinking water and carbonated beverages, are widely available, further contributing to the company’s environmental initiatives. It aims to reach consumers directly through platforms such as Bisleri@Doorstep, ensuring a safe supply of their products.

Overall, Bisleri International’s partnership with the Ministry of Earth Sciences signifies an important step towards enhancing awareness and engagement in coastal environmental preservation. With ongoing efforts to promote recycling and proper waste management, the initiative aims to create a lasting impact on the communities along India’s coastline.
