Bank Holiday Schedule for Mahavir Jayanti 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

Mahavir Jayanti, a prominent festival in Jainism, commemorates the birth of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar, banks in India observe holidays during this significant occasion under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Bank holidays are not consistent nationwide; they vary from city to city, reflecting local observances.

In 2026, there was uncertainty regarding bank operations on March 30 and March 31. Generally, banks operated normally on March 30, but several key cities observed holidays on March 31. Below is a detailed city-wise overview showing the status of banks for both days.

Panaji and Patna have differing statuses, with banks open on March 30 but closed on March 31 in Patna, while Panaji remains open on both days. Raipur, Ranchi, and Srinagar have banks open on March 30 but closed on March 31.

In Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada, banks will function normally on both days, maintaining accessibility for residents. It is pertinent for customers to verify local holiday schedules before visiting bank branches, as variations exist widely.
