Anahat and Abhay Singh Reach Squash Semi-Finals at Asian Games 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian squash player Anahat Singh has advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s singles event at the Asian Games 2026. She achieved this by defeating compatriot Tanvi Khanna in a commanding manner, winning the quarter-final match 3-0. The match took place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 25, 2026.

The 18-year-old Anahat completed the victory in just 15 minutes, showcasing her skill and speed. From the beginning, she controlled the game, winning the first game 11-2 within five minutes. Her well-placed drops and fast-paced shots left Tanvi struggling to keep up.

The second game also saw Anahat maintain her dominance, finishing it with a score of 11-5, despite Tanvi’s attempts to recover and build momentum. Anahat sealed her victory with an 11-3 score in the third game and secured her place in the semi-finals.

Anahat is set to face Japan’s Satomi Watanabe in this upcoming semi-final. Watanabe, currently ranked world No. 6, has previously won a bronze medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Their earlier encounter resulted in a closely contested match, demonstrating the potential challenge Anahat may face.

Abhay Singh’s Strong Performance in Men’s Singles

In the men’s singles quarter-final, Abhay Singh displayed an equally impressive performance, securing his spot in the semi-finals with a straight-game victory over Japan’s Ryunosuke Tsukue. Abhay won the match with scores of 11-4, 11-3, and 11-6, completing the victory in 30 minutes. From the outset, he set the tempo and did not allow Tsukue to gain any traction.

Abhay’s performance was marked by his aggressive style and strategic shots, which effectively neutralised his opponent’s attempts to form an offensive strategy. Should compatriot Veer Chotrani win his quarter-final against Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan later in the day, Abhay and Veer will meet in an all-Indian semi-final.

This potential match-up ensures that India is guaranteed at least a silver medal in the men’s singles event. The prospect of two Indian players competing for a medal underscores the growing strength of squash in the country.

India’s Overall Performance at the Asian Games

India has witnessed a successful outing at the Asian Games 2026, particularly in the sports of squash, shooting, and kabaddi. Apart from Anahat and Abhay making their way through to the semi-finals, Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar have also reached the semi-finals in the mixed doubles event after defeating representatives from the Philippines.

In shooting, Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh earned gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Niraj Kumar also brought home a silver medal in the men’s 50m rifle three positions team event. Their contributions have helped command attention for India in these events.

While significant achievements have been noted, India’s journey has not been without challenges. Exits were reported in fencing, canoe sprint, and several swimming events. Furthermore, in Pokémon Unite esports, the team suffered a defeat against South Korea.

Despite these setbacks, the strong performances in various disciplines indicate a well-rounded presence for India at the ongoing Games, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to excelling in multiple sports.
