Amit Shah Conducts Roadshow in Kaliyaganj for Upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a roadshow in Kaliyaganj, North Dinajpur, on April 14, as part of preparations for the forthcoming Assembly Elections in 2026. During his address, Shah directed criticism towards the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, particularly regarding issues related to infiltration from Bangladesh. He asserted that a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal would secure the necessary land for completing border fencing to curb illegal crossings.

Shah stated that the current administration has failed to address infiltration effectively. He reiterated the BJP’s commitment to national security, claiming that the party’s leadership would prioritise fencing along the Bangladesh border. The focus on this issue underscores the BJP’s strategy to consolidate support around nationalistic sentiments in the state.

Warnings Against TMC ‘Goons’ and Allegations of Intimidation

In a bold statement, Amit Shah warned individuals associated with the TMC, referring to them as ‘goons,’ to remain indoors during the voting period. He claimed that any attempt to disrupt the electoral process would lead to consequences following the elections on May 5. Shah’s comments reflect a broader strategy by the BJP to portray itself as a challenger to TMC’s alleged misuse of power and intimidation tactics against its opponents.

The Home Minister also accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of attempting to intimidate the majority community in West Bengal. He questioned her claims regarding the existence of the majority community being at risk if the TMC fails to maintain power. Shah’s rhetoric highlights the BJP’s campaign narrative, positioning itself as the defender of the rights of the state’s majority community.

In his speech, Shah referenced instances of unrest during Banerjee’s tenure, citing riots in Murshidabad and restrictions on cultural events such as Saraswati Puja. He urged the public not to fear Banerjee’s rhetoric, asserting that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the BJP would secure electoral victory.

Manoj Tiwari Campaigns in Howrah

As part of the BJP’s electoral strategy, BJP Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari campaigned in Howrah the day before Shah’s roadshow. Tiwari commended the Election Commission of India, describing it as one of the most organised electoral bodies globally. He emphasised the Commission’s effectiveness in managing elections for a population of 1.4 billion, pointing out the rare instances of re-polling as a testament to its efficiency.

Tiwari’s remarks further our understanding of the BJP’s confidence in the electoral process in India, contrasting it against the TMC’s alleged reliance on fraudulent voting practices. He encouraged voters to trust the Election Commission, suggesting that the integrity of the electoral process is paramount for democracy.

Polling in West Bengal is scheduled to take place on April 23 and 29, with results expected to be announced on May 4. The lead-up to these elections is characterised by increased political activity from various parties, including the BJP’s efforts to gain ground in a state that has traditionally leaned towards the TMC.
