Help Protect The Endangered Wild Red Pandas & Their Habitats
Since 2007, the Red Panda Network has been working to protect red pandas and their habitats in Nepal. They use an integrated, landscape level approach for red panda conservation, which includes research and monitoring, education and outreach, habitat protection and restoration, and sustainable development initiatives. BodyShop is on board to be an active partner of The Red Panda Network to educate the local communities, restore core red panda habitats and reforest degraded forest areas and plant red panda food (bamboo).
Their Bio-Bridge project in Nepal, pledged to help protect the endangered Red Pandas of The Himalayas. Under this initiative, the brand will build a Bio-Bridge in Nepal to save the endangered Red Pandas, at risk from de-forestation and destruction of their habitats.
Every consumer of The Body Shop can also be a part of this initiative through the purchase of Himalayan Charcoal Mask and Himalayan Charcoal Soap. Facilitated by every purchase, the brand will contribute INR 28 as donation / contribution from their end. Both these products use bamboo charcoal instead of charcoal recovered by burning trees, hence making it more sustainably sourced.
Through this, a consumer can contribute to rehabilitate 250,000sq m of red panda habitat, which is nearly the size of 25 football pitches. The global donation target is a minimum of €50K (roughly 39 lakhs) to red Panda Network over a 2 month period.
The Bio-Bridges project aims to address the problem of habitat fragmentation by protecting and regenerating corridors between healthy forests, linking isolated and endangered animals and plant species. This allows animals to travel more widely in search of mates and helps them thrive. The programme claims to protect and regenerate 75 million square metres of habitat as part of its Enrich Not Exploit Commitment. Through this over 17.2 million square metres of habitat have been protected in Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia & India.
