Zomato Delivery Agent Thrashed Over Late Food Delivery in Bengaluru; Shocking Video Goes Viral

The CSR Journal Magazine

A Zomato food delivery agent was allegedly attacked by two men in the Bapuji Nagar locality of Bengaluru after arriving late with their food order. The violent incident, which occurred near Shobha Theatre, was captured on video and has since drawn widespread attention online.

Eyewitness footage shows the situation escalating quickly after the delivery executive reached the location. One of the men can be seen questioning the agent about the delay, which soon led to a heated argument. The situation turned violent when the accused picked up nearby objects to assault the rider.

According to the video, “one of the accused hit the victim on his head with a plastic container, while another accused thrashed him with a chair.” At one point, one of the attackers even tried to climb onto the delivery executive’s two-wheeler. Observers noted that “one of the accused wearing a light-coloured t-shirt seemed to be drunk as he was not able to stand properly.”

No FIR Yet in Zomato Agent Assault

Police officials responded to the incident shortly after receiving a tip-off. They recorded statements from both the delivery agent and the two accused. However, the delivery agent sustained only minor injuries and did not file a formal complaint. A police officer stated, “The investigation will proceed once the victim files a complaint.”

In the absence of an FIR, authorities have registered a Non-Cognisable Report (NCR) for now. Interestingly, a counter-complaint has been filed by the accused, alleging that the delivery person was verbally abusive and behaved in an aggressive manner.

The assault has sparked public conversation about the increasing burden on food delivery workers, especially in cities like Bengaluru, where congested roads, unpredictable weather, and restaurant delays often make it hard to meet promised delivery times. Many are questioning the sustainability of fast-delivery models, especially when human safety is at risk.

This is not the first time Zomato has faced public criticism. Earlier this year, a disgruntled customer took to LinkedIn after repeated service failures, calling the app-based platform a “headache.” She voiced her frustration about the reliability of services, despite the company’s access to tools like AI chat support and real-time tracking. The company responded, saying they were “disappointed to hear” about the experience and asked for her contact details to investigate further.

As the video of this recent assault circulates widely on social media, it has become a flashpoint in the larger discussion around gig economy workers’ rights and consumer accountability.
