Western Railways Introduces Special Trains for T20 World Cup Final

The CSR Journal Magazine

In anticipation of the T20 World Cup final, Western Railway has announced the operation of two superfast special trains connecting Mumbai Central to Ahmedabad. Following the Indian team’s victory against England, the final match against New Zealand is set for March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. As cricket fans from various parts of the country converge on Ahmedabad to witness this high-stakes game, the addition of these special trains is aimed at accommodating the increased passenger demand.

Historically, major sporting events such as the World Cup final lead to a surge in airfare and train ticket prices, making travel difficult for many enthusiasts. However, the excitement surrounding live matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium drives fans to travel significant distances to be part of the live audience, especially when the Indian team is in contention for the championship. The Indian Railways often responds to this surge by deploying additional trains to facilitate easier travel for fans.

Details of the Special Trains

The first special service, designated train number 09027, will leave Mumbai Central at 23:45 on Saturday, March 7, 2026, and is scheduled to arrive in Ahmedabad at 08:30 the following day. The return journey, train number 09028, will depart from Ahmedabad at 03:00 on Monday, March 9, 2026, arriving back in Mumbai Central at 11:15 the same day. Both trains will make stops at Borivali, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, and Vadodara stations in either direction, and will comprise First AC, AC 2-tier, and AC 3-tier coaches.

The second category of special trains includes train number 09021, which will depart from Mumbai Central at 06:20 on Sunday, March 8, 2026, reaching Ahmedabad by 12:40 the same day. The return journey, train number 09022, will leave Ahmedabad at 15:10 and is expected to arrive at Mumbai Central by 21:45 on the same day. This set of trains will also halt at Borivali, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, and Vadodara in both directions, featuring amenities such as Vistadome, Executive Anubhuti, Executive Chair Car, and AC Chair Car coaches.
