The Government of Telangana has launched the ‘T-Social Impact Group’ to bring more convergence between the corporates doing CSR and various departments in the State Government. The programme is reaping rewards since investment on CSR in Telangana is on the rise. We present the best practices in corporate social responsibility in the state.
Ministry of Corporate Affairs data shows that in 2023-24, total CSR contributions in the state was Rs 1054.92 from 1531 companies.
Though Telangana has steadily increased its CSR quotient from nearly Rs 102 crore in 2014-15, it made its debut in the top 10 only during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-21 with a total CSR contribution of Rs 627.7 crore.
While education, differently-abled, and livelihood have emerged as the top choice for corporates with donations of Rs 466.88 crore in FY24, the category of health, eradicating hunger, poverty and malnutrition, safe drinking water, and sanitation received the second largest tranche of Rs 287.1 crore.
This was followed by Rural Development at a distant third with Rs 109.27 crore. At number 4 is Environment and Animal Welfare at Rs 67.18 crore. Gender equality, women empowerment, old age homes, and reducing inequalities stood in the fifth spot with Rs 63.59 crore.
Telangana’s refusal to accept CSR Funds from Adani Foundation
In November 2024, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the state government would not accept the Rs 100 crore CSR contribution pledged by industrialist Gautam Adani for the proposed Young India Skills University in the state. The decision came amid a US court’s indictment of the Adani Group chairman.
CM Revanth Reddy explained that the decision was taken to avoid any unwarranted controversy in the wake of the ongoing allegations against the Adani Group.
In a letter to Priti Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Foundation, the state government’s Special Chief Secretary (Industries) Jayesh Ranjan said he has been “instructed by the chief minister not to seek the transfer of funds in view of the present circumstances and arising controversies”.

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages signs an MoU with Government of Telangana to empower women entrepreneurs
Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB), one of India’s leading FMCG companies, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), Department of Rural Development, Government of Telangana, to expand the reach and enhance the impact of Mahila Shakti Canteens, an initiative of the state government that promotes women’s economic empowerment through self-help groups (SHGs).
Under the MoU, HCCB will plan, co-design, and execute relevant CSR initiatives in Mahila Shakti Canteens through training Self-Help Groups in collaboration with relevant and experienced Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and implementation partners. HCCB will focus on capacity building for women entrepreneurs, with an emphasis on financial and digital literacy, sales, marketing and retail management.
The programme aims to cover 100 Mahila Shakti Canteens and train over 1,000 women entrepreneurs associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Telangana. SERP, Government of Telangana will facilitate alignment with district development plans, and schemes pertaining to Mahila Shakti Canteens, and enable convergence with state and central government programs. It will further support in beneficiary selection, stakeholder coordination, and community mobilization.
Cyient Foundation and ICT Academy Launch Entrepreneurship Development Program for Students in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Cyient Foundation, the CSR arm of Cyient Ltd., has partnered with ICT Academy to launch a comprehensive entrepreneurship development program aimed at empowering 2,000 students across engineering, arts, and science institutions in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The initiative is designed to equip young minds from tier-2 and tier-3 cities with entrepreneurial skills and industry exposure through a structured three-stage program spanning awareness, intensive training, and mentorship.
Over the course of 12 months, the program aims to build entrepreneurial capacity through awareness sessions for 2,000 students, followed by hands-on entrepreneurship training for 1,000 selected participants. The top 100 students will then receive two months of personalized mentoring and business facilitation, including guidance on fundraising, compliance, leadership, and go-to-market strategies.
CSR of AVNL-ordnance factory Medak for armed forces veterans
Ordnance Factory Medak (OFMK), a unit of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HQ Telangana & Andhra Sub Area (TASA), Secunderabad, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative for 2024-25 in March this year.
According to an announcement by the company, the MoU facilitates the procurement and supply of medical equipment worth Rs 32 lakhs to Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) polyclinics, aiming to enhance healthcare services for veterans and their families. Under this initiative, AVNL-OFMK will supply medical equipment, including Biochemistry Analysers, six Dental Chairs, and six Dental X-ray machines.
This initiative demonstrates AVNL’s dedication to social responsibility by strengthening medical infrastructure for the armed forces community. By addressing healthcare needs through CSR initiatives, AVNL-OFMK continues to contribute to the well-being of ex-servicemen and their families.
Amazon Inaugurates Village Development Projects In Telangana
Amazon Web Services (AWS) India announced completion of community development initiatives in Meerkhanpet, Kandukur Mandal, part of Rangareddy district in Hyderabad in January 2025. The initiatives – including a public park, a water purifier system, and renovated buildings for a health sub-center and self-help group (SHG) resource center – were handed over to the local community.
These initiatives were undertaken by Amazon with support from nonprofit organisation ‘SEARCH’, as part of Amazon’s commitment to positively impact communities in regions where it operates.
In addition to these, Amazon has also installed solar streetlights and undertaken avenue plantation for village roads in Meerkhanpet. In 2022, Amazon built a Community Library and renovated the Zilla Parishad High School at Meerkhanpet, while also establishing an Amazon Think Big Space in the school, which focuses on fostering science, technology, engineering, and math education to the school students.
Amazon’s CSR in Rangareddy district also include renovation of government schools, Anganwadi centres, healthcare centres and hospitals, and the launch of Think Big Spaces in multiple parts of the district including Nednur, Meerkhanpet, and Kandukur mandals.
CSR of Granules India Limited for TB Patients
Pharmaceutical company Granules India Limited launched its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to support 1,030 tuberculosis (TB) patients in Bhadradri Kothagudem District, Telangana in May 2025. Under this programme, the company has committed to providing nutritional kits to TB patients for six months, with a total distribution of 6,180 kits throughout the duration of the project. Each Nutritional Kit consists of Rice, Millets, Cooking oil, and Groundnuts, and other wholesome food items.
This activity is part of the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, a national programme launched by the Government of India aimed at eliminating TB by 2025. Granules India Limited is registered as Nikshay Mitra with Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The project will be carried out with the Akshaya Patra Foundation as the implementation partner.
CSR of SBI Foundation
The State Bank of India (SBI) Foundation announced two CSR initiatives this week. At the SBI Head Office in Hyderabad’s Koti, SBI Foundation donated a Tata Winger minibus to Manchikalalu, a voluntary organization that operates a home for needy children in Marredpally.
Later, a MoU was signed between SBI Foundation and Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR)-Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR), Hyderabad. The MoU is part of the Gram Seva initiative of SBI Foundation for ‘Promotion of Direct Seeded Rice (DSR), the presence of C Srinivasulu Setty. A cheque of Rs. 4.5 crore from SBI Foundation was handed over by C Srinivasulu Setty, Managing Director (International Banking, Global Markets ad Technology) to ICAR-IIRR.
Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages’ Campus to Corporate Programme
Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) announced in 2023 that it is set to expand the reach of its ‘Campus to Corporate Programme’ in Telangana, in partnership with the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge and Aahan Consulting. The program aims to equip nearly 5,000 final-year diploma students from Government Polytechnic Colleges with employable skills within 2024.
The Campus to Corporate programme aims to upskill and make the college students industry ready. Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge works on creating batches of students, identifying locations for the physical classroom sessions, and the calendar for these training sessions. HCCB on the other hand works towards developing the content, identifying the trainers, conducting the Train the Trainers program (TTT) to create and expand a pool of expert trainers, and conducting the virtual and physical classroom sessions.
The programme since its launch in 2022, has trained over 15,000 students across Telangana, as per an announcement by the company. The trainings include sessions on soft skills, resume building, and interview preparation. They further aim to upskill an additional 10,000 college students by the 2023-24 academic year.
Gland Pharma’s ‘Free Breakfast Programme’ for children and mothers
Gland Pharma Limited, a leading manufacturer of high-quality injectables, performs Corporate Social Responsibility through its public charitable trust, Gland-Fosun Foundation. The company’s ‘Free Breakfast Programme’ is providing free breakfast-cum-health support to underprivileged children studying in Government schools and lactating and expecting mothers in Anganwadi centres of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
This programme was started on 14th November 2019 (Chidlren’s Day) and currently serving free breakfast to more than 16,000 children from 83 government schools along with 350 beneficiaries of 10 Anganwadi centres in Hyderabad. Of these, 43 schools are in Hyderabad, 40 are in Vishakhapatnam.
Gland Pharma provides funding support to Akshaya Patra Foundation, their implementing partners. They have specialised vehicles to convey these meals in hot and hygienic condition to all the beneficiaries. The foundation provides meals in the morning, which enables these children to have a good and filling breakfast at the beginning of their school routine.
Habitat for Humanity India and IKEA improve homes of 70 low-income families in Hyderabad
Housing non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity India and global home furnishings company IKEA in India announced last year that they are working to repair homes of 70 marginalized families living in Jagathgiri Gutta located in Medchal district, Hyderabad, Telangana.
The community living in Jagathgiri Gutta is inhabited by daily wage earners, domestic helpers, vegetable vendors, and people working in the informal sector, most living in dilapidated or damaged houses which fail to protect them from extreme climatic conditions and make them susceptible to diseases. Most houses are more than 20 years old and need repairs. Loss of livelihood caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented the families from making house repairs.
Through this collaboration, Habitat for Humanity India has repaired the damaged homes and improved the housing conditions for more than 350 individuals in the community who had suffered from the dual health and economic crises posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The repair works include fixing cracks, plastering, painting, door and roof adjustments, and overhauling of toilets.
CSR of TCS – Adult Literacy Programme
TCS launched a revolutionary, cost-effective learning programme for adults in the year 2000, enabling functional literacy. Over 46,221 adults in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been positively impacted.
The Adult Literacy Programme (ALP) is one of the most successful initiatives for CSR in Telangana. It runs on TCS’ proprietary Computer-based Functional Literacy (CBFL) solution, which enables adult learners to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic within 50-55 learning hours. It is intended for native speakers of a language and works with phonetic languages. Its prime focus is on words rather than alphabets, thus enabling students to acquire a 700-word vocabulary within a short while. This programme is available in 9 Indian languages (Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Oriya and Urdu). It uses a combination of teaching methods such as software, multimedia presentations and printed materials.
TCS collaborates with agencies such as the National Literacy Mission Authority (NLMA), NGOs, and Corporate Connects to implement this programme. It is currently being deployed in coordination with the State Literacy Mission Authorities and NGOs aiming to help NLMA’s Saakshar Bharat literacy target of educating 7 crore citizens. Tata Consultancy Services has won several awards for this CSR solution including the Project of the Year award in the Contribution to Community category at the prestigious Project Management National Conference 2018.
