Three-Year-Old Boy Drowned in an Uncovered Pit in Greater Noida

The CSR Journal Magazine

A tragic incident occurred in Dalelgarh village, Greater Noida, on Saturday, resulting in the death of a three-year-old boy named Devansh. This incident follows the death of a technology professional in a similar water-related mishap nearly a month earlier. Residents have expressed anger and frustration over the apparent negligence of local authorities regarding safety measures in the area.

Devansh had arrived at his maternal grandparents’ house in Dalelgarh from Sikandrabad, Bulandshahr, along with his mother Anjali to participate in a community feast at a nearby temple. While playing near the event site, the child allegedly lost his balance and fell into a deep pit filled with rainwater. Immediate attempts by family members and nearby villagers to rescue him were made, but unfortunately, he was found unresponsive when pulled out of the water.

The local community is mourning the tragic loss and emphasises the need for action. Villagers reported that the pit had been left uncovered for an extended period and had accumulated water from recent rainfall. Many community members stated that they had submitted multiple complaints to the Greater Noida Authority, urging them to take necessary measures to cover such hazardous pits to prevent similar occurrences. However, there has been no visible response or action from the authorities to address these safety concerns.

Residents Question Safety Measures

In addition to this incident, residents recalled previous warnings given to local officials following a similar case in Sector 150, where a tech professional, Yuvraj Mehta, faced a fatal accident late in January. Mehta’s vehicle fell into a water-filled pit, and he was reportedly stranded on top of it for almost two hours while rescue teams hesitated to approach the vehicle due to adverse weather conditions and safety hazards. The community is now questioning the effectiveness of the local administration in ensuring public safety.

Families living in the area are advocating for improved oversight and better infrastructure to prevent these types of accidents. There is a growing consensus among residents that more rigorous safety protocols must be implemented to protect children and families from similar tragedies. They are encouraging collective action to ensure that authorities are held accountable for ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

The recent drowning incident serves as a devastating reminder of previous accidents and has intensified calls for urgent action from local authorities to address safety hazards in Greater Noida. Residents hope that this tragedy will prompt significant changes to prevent future loss of life due to negligence and inadequate safety measures in vulnerable areas.
