Tamil Actor Arya Named in Rs 1.8 Crore Cheating Case by Equipment Rental Firm

The CSR Journal Magazine

Tamil actor Arya has been implicated in a cheating complaint filed by a camera equipment rental company at the Jubilee Hills Police Station in Hyderabad. The company claims that Arya, along with producer Vinod and others associated with the production of the Malayalam film Ananthan Kaadu, failed to settle outstanding dues exceeding Rs 1.80 crore for camera and lighting gear used during the filming. The allegation pertains to equipment hired for the movie shoot, which also received a Tamil dub.

Upon receiving the complaint, police at Jubilee Hills registered a case under laws pertaining to cheating and criminal intimidation. The authorities are currently reviewing the documentation provided by the rental company and are expected to conduct interviews with the individuals named in the complaint as the inquiry moves forward.

So far, neither Arya nor the production team of Ananthan Kaadu has publicly responded to the allegations made against them. The lack of an official statement raises questions regarding the case’s implications for the parties involved.

Nature of the Rental Agreement

According to reports, the rental firm stated that it had supplied premium digital cameras, lighting equipment, and other essential filming tools that were vital for the production of Ananthan Kaadu. The company alleges that the production team had promised timely payments for the services rendered and the equipment provided.

In addition to supplying the necessary equipment, the firm also undertook transportation logistics from Hyderabad to Kerala, along with providing technical support throughout the shooting schedule. However, after the completion of filming, a significant portion of the payment reportedly remained unsettled. The rental company mentioned that the total bill reached Rs 2.12 crore, but only a fraction of this sum was paid, leaving over Rs 1.80 crore outstanding.

The rental company claims that the producers acknowledged the pending payment in writing, assuring that it would be settled prior to the film’s release in theatres. Despite numerous reminders communicated via letters, phone calls, and WhatsApp messages, the alleged payments were not forthcoming, raising concerns about the adherence to their financial commitments.

Threat Allegations and Ongoing Investigation

The complaint further alleges that when the firm’s manager contacted the production team regarding the unpaid dues, Arya, producer Vinod, and a personal assistant allegedly issued threats. Following this reported incident and the continued absence of payment, the rental company escalated the matter by approaching the Jubilee Hills Police for formal intervention.

As the investigation unfolds, Arya has remained active in his film career. Recently, he revealed the first-look poster of his upcoming project, See U, which is directed by Santhosh Srivatsan and co-produced under Arya’s home production banner. The film features Kishen Das and Sanjana in leading roles.

As of now, the ongoing inquiry into the cheating allegations has not visibly impacted Arya’s professional undertakings, but the resolution of the case could have implications for the individuals involved in the production of Ananthan Kaadu. The situation continues to develop as more information becomes available from the police investigation.
