The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has initiated the online application process for the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, known as CHSL 2026. This recruitment effort involves a total of 2,536 tentative vacancies across several positions, including Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), and Data Entry Operator (DEO).

Candidates can submit their applications from September 7 to October 7, 2026, via the official SSC website. The deadline for payment of the application fee is set for October 8, 2026, while the application correction window will be accessible from October 14 to October 16, 2026.

The application portal will close on October 7 at 11 pm, giving candidates ample time to apply. The time allowed for online payment of fees also concludes on October 8 at 11 pm. Details regarding the Tier-I and Tier-II computer-based examination dates are expected to be announced in the future.

Application and Examination Rules Modification

This year, the SSC has introduced and reiterated several important application and examination rules. One significant change is the implementation of Aadhaar-based biometric authentication during the examination process. Candidates are required to use their Aadhaar identification when filling out their One-Time Registration (OTR) and application forms.

Those opting out of Aadhaar may present alternative documents verifying their name, date of birth, address, gender, and photographic identity. Utilising Aadhaar authentication allows candidates certain concessions concerning photograph and signature requirements. Applications will not be immediately rejected due to non-compliance with photo or signature specifications, and candidates using this method will not need to carry a recent colour photograph or an original photo identity card for entry into the examination.

Additionally, candidates must capture a live photograph during the application process instead of uploading an existing photograph. They need to ensure proper lighting and a plain background while sitting or standing before the camera. Specific guidelines prohibit wearing caps, masks, or glasses during this live capture, and non-compliance could result in application rejection.

Typing Test Regulations and Eligibility Criteria

An essential stipulation for candidates taking the typing test, particularly for LDC and JSA roles, is the exclusive use of the Mangal font for Hindi typing. The notification warns that failure to comply will lead to disqualification from the typing or skill test. For English candidates, a typing speed of 35 words per minute is required, while Hindi candidates must achieve 30 words per minute within a ten-minute duration.

Those eligible for a scribe will receive an additional five minutes, allowing for a 15-minute typing test. To qualify for posts like LDC and JSA, as well as most DEO Grade ‘A’ positions, applicants must have completed their Class 12 or equivalent examination from an accredited board. Furthermore, candidates vying for specific DEO Grade ‘A’ roles must hold a Class 12 pass in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject.

The age requirement for these positions ranges from 18 to 27 years as of August 1, 2026, which means candidates must have been born between August 2, 1999, and August 1, 2008. Age relaxation is applicable for eligible reserved categories in accordance with government regulations. The application fee is Rs 100, although there are exemptions for women, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates, alongside eligible Ex-Servicemen.
