Shvan Singh, 10, Secures Army Sponsorship for Courage During Operation Sindoor

The CSR Journal Magazine

A young boy from Ferozepur district in Punjab has received special recognition from the Indian Army for his remarkable courage and patriotism shown during Operation Sindoor. The Army announced that it will bear all the educational expenses of 10-year-old Shvan Singh, who helped soldiers by supplying tea, milk, and water during a critical border operation.

Shvan Singh, a student of Class 4, lives in Tara Wali village, which lies just two kilometres from the Indo-Pak border. When Operation Sindoor began after a terrorist attack in the region, the area witnessed heavy firing and tension. Despite the danger, Shvan and his father Sona Singh decided to support the soldiers in any way possible. The boy would accompany his father to bring hot tea, fresh milk, lassi, and water to the jawans posted at the frontline.

Villagers narrate how, even amid fear and the sound of gunfire, the boy moved through the fields to ensure the soldiers received refreshments. He made several trips every day, never hesitating even in risky conditions. The soldiers, engaged in a high-risk operation, were touched by the young boy’s courage and cheerful presence.

The Indian Army took note of Shvan’s selfless service. The Western Command organised a felicitation ceremony for him at Ferozepur Cantonment. Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, GOC-in-C, personally met Shvan and announced that the Army will sponsor the boy’s entire education. According to Army officials, this gesture is a mark of gratitude and encouragement, and also aims to inspire other youngsters to serve the country in their own ways.

Shvan shared that he wishes to join the Indian Army when he grows up. Overwhelmed by the Army’s recognition, his father said the family feels proud and grateful for the honour, and that it has further motivated Shvan to focus on his studies and his ambition.

Operation Sindoor, launched at the border in May, was a major response after multiple terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Troops operated in extremely challenging conditions near the border. Even in such difficult times, the support from villagers like Shvan brought comfort and strength to the soldiers.

The Army’s decision to support the boy’s education has already been praised across the state, and locals say that Shvan’s act shows that courage has no age. His story stands as an example of how ordinary citizens can contribute to the country’s safety and morale, even off the battlefield.
