Range Rover has officially commenced bookings for its all-new Range Rover Sport Electric in India, signifying the initial introduction of a performance SUV equipped exclusively with an electric powertrain. This development comes alongside the availability of traditional petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid variants of the Range Rover Sport.

Specifications and Performance Features

The Range Rover Sport Electric is powered by a high-capacity 118.5kWh battery paired with two 260kW electric motors, together generating a robust 550bhp and 850Nm of torque. This combination reportedly delivers the highest torque output ever featured in a Range Rover Sport. The vehicle is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, utilising the Dynamic Launch Mode.

According to Range Rover, this electric SUV boasts a claimed WLTP range of up to 609km, while real-world conditions may yield a practical range of approximately 533km. Variability in actual range may be experienced depending on driving conditions and individual usage patterns. The model’s 800V electrical architecture allows for DC fast charging, enabling the battery to gain as much as 220km of range within a mere 10 minutes. Moreover, a 10 to 80 per cent charge can be accomplished in approximately 22 minutes using a compatible rapid charger.

The vehicle is additionally equipped with ThermAssist heat management technology, which is designed to maintain optimal battery and powertrain temperatures. Enhanced charging options include a new optional home charger and advanced charging features embedded in the Range Rover app.

Advanced Chassis Development

The Range Rover Sport Electric has been distinctly engineered with a chassis setup tailored specifically for its electric powertrain. Features such as Dynamic Air Suspension, Twin Valve Dampers, Adaptive Dynamics, Electronic Active Roll Control, and All-Wheel Steering are incorporated into the design. Notably, the body structure of the electric variant is reported to be 61 per cent stiffer compared to its internal combustion predecessor, while the centre of gravity has been lowered by 73mm.

These modifications, alongside the instant torque delivery provided by the electric motors, are claimed to enhance the response and handling of the SUV significantly. The powertrain makes use of virtual all-wheel drive technology combined with an Intelligent Traction Management system, which allows the SUV to navigate through water up to 900mm deep and tackle inclines of up to 45 degrees.

Design Features and Variants of the Electric SUV

The exterior design of the Range Rover Sport Electric largely mirrors that of the conventional model, with aerodynamic enhancements such as a reconfigured grille and novel alloy wheel designs. These modifications are attributed to the improvement in efficiency, reportedly contributing an additional 16km of range at motorway speeds.

This electric SUV will be available in various specifications, including Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography, and First Edition. The First Edition is particularly distinguished by a Zadar Grey exterior, Satin Wrap, contrasting black roof, and 22-inch alloy wheels. Customers selecting the Autobiography package will also benefit from access to the Range Rover Bespoke commissioning service, which offers a variety of customisation options, including unique exterior colours and personalised interior details.

Manufacturing of the new electric SUV is taking place at JLR’s Solihull facility in the UK, utilising the same production lines as the petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid models. The electric vehicle is constructed on the MLA-Flex platform and features a Battery Digital Twin for ongoing monitoring and predictive maintenance, accessible through over-the-air software updates. The battery system comes with an extensive warranty of eight years or 1,60,000km, providing assurance for long-term usage.
