Rajasthan Nursing Student Found Dead, Boyfriend Confesses to Murder

The CSR Journal Magazine

The body of a female nursing student was found in a state of decomposition in bushes along National Highway-927A in the Dungarpur district of Rajasthan. The remains were discovered on September 24 near Varda Nala by a man named Kantilal, who reportedly noticed a strong foul odour while passing by. He ventured a little further into the bushes and subsequently discovered the body. Kantilal contacted the Varda police station, prompting a swift police response to the scene.

Identification and Investigation

Following the recovery of the body, authorities initiated an investigation and engaged the Modus Operandi Bureau (MOB) team to gather evidence. It was essential to establish the identity of the deceased woman. Eventually, the police identified her as Nisha Katara, a resident of Ghata Bassi within the jurisdiction of Dowda police station. Nisha was reportedly studying nursing at a college in Sagwara and had been renting accommodation with friends.

Nisha’s family reported that she had intended to return home on a Sunday but failed to appear. Initially, they presumed she was preoccupied with other commitments. However, her absence from college the following day prompted them to visit Sagwara in search of her. Friends informed the family that Nisha had left with her boyfriend, Poonamchand Katara, on September 19, which led them to contact law enforcement.

Police initiated a search for Poonamchand by reviewing CCTV footage and employing informants and the cyber cell for further intelligence. His whereabouts were traced across several locations, including Dungarpur, Udaipur, Mount Abu, Ambaji, and Ahmedabad. After gathering sufficient evidence, the police detained him for questioning.

Confession and Details of the Incident

Poonamchand was taken to the police station, where he initially expressed sorrow regarding Nisha’s demise, alleging that an unknown individual was responsible for her death. However, during subsequent interrogation, he confessed to killing Nisha, revising his earlier claim. The police stated that Poonamchand revealed that Nisha had threatened to leave him, cease communication, or involve law enforcement against him.

According to police reports, Poonamchand lured Nisha to a secluded area, where he attacked her multiple times with a knife, injuring her in the chest and abdomen. Following his admission, authorities recovered the weapon allegedly used in the crime, along with blood-stained clothing and additional evidence from Gap Sagar Lake in Dungarpur, with assistance from divers.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police are examining the complete sequence of events that led to Nisha’s tragic death. Law enforcement officials are focusing on gathering further evidence and witness statements to develop a broader understanding of the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served.
