Prez Xi Visits India for BRICS Summit Highlighting Stable China-India Relations

The CSR Journal Magazine

The upcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to New Delhi for the BRICS summit underscores the significance of stable and amicable relations between India and China, according to Indian Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami. This summit marks Xi’s first trip to India in nearly seven years, coinciding with key discussions expected between him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 12 and 13, 2026.

Doraiswami stated that improving ties between the nations is crucial not only for their respective populations but for regional and global stability. He believes that the summit provides an important opportunity for both countries to enhance cooperation on issues of common concern, which could benefit their 2.8 billion citizens collectively.

In his remarks, Doraiswami highlighted that a constructive and predictable relationship between the two populous emerging economies is essential for fostering peace and prosperity not only in Asia but also throughout the broader world. He articulated that their collaboration is increasingly important as global governance evolves to cater to developing nations’ aspirations.

Potential for Cooperation

The ambassador elaborated on the shared interests of India and China, pointing out that platforms like BRICS provide essential avenues for emerging economies. He suggested these platforms facilitate discussions on sustainable development, financial architecture, technological cooperation, and people-centric growth initiatives. Maintaining a focus on these areas can help both countries address mutual challenges effectively.

Looking forward to the summit, Doraiswami noted the potential for enhanced cooperation on diverse topics, including trade, connectivity, climate action, public health, and the digital economy. He emphasised the significance of contributing to a global order that is balanced, inclusive, and equitable, particularly in light of current geopolitical challenges.

Furthermore, he recalled last year’s dialogue between Xi and Modi, where Xi reiterated that the two nations are cooperation partners rather than competitors. This sentiment aligns with historical interactions that have enriched both societies through the exchange of ideas, commerce, and scholarship, dating back well before the modern era.

Importance of Peace in Diplomatic Relations

Doraiswami pointed out that peace along the China-India border is a fundamental aspect of the partnership between the two countries. He asserted the necessity of mutual respect and sensitivity while recognising the natural differences that arise between nations. Such principles, he believes, can help prevent these differences from escalating into disputes.

He expressed optimism that working together on their shared goals could enhance the well-being of both peoples and contribute positively to global stability and peace. The upcoming summit represents a significant diplomatic event as both India and China aim to stabilise their bilateral ties amid ongoing global tensions, including the conflicts in West Asia and the situation concerning Ukraine.

As BRICS convenes in New Delhi, representatives from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa will gather to discuss multilateral cooperation, which is expected to remain at the centre of the agenda. The summit will highlight the ongoing efforts of member nations to collaborate amid a complex international landscape and enhance cooperative frameworks for future engagement.
