OnePlus Increases Service Network Amid Shutdown Speculations

The CSR Journal Magazine

In response to ongoing rumors regarding a potential shutdown of its operations, OnePlus has announced plans to enhance its after-sales service infrastructure by 50 percent starting in April 2026. This expansion will not involve the establishment of new OnePlus service centers but will utilize the existing service network of its parent company, Oppo. Following this move, the total number of authorized OnePlus service centers is expected to increase from approximately 400 to over 600. The objective is to extend service coverage to around 500 cities across India, including several emerging Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets.

Commitment to the Indian Market Reaffirmed

In conjunction with the expansion announcement, OnePlus has reiterated its commitment to the Indian market. The company has confirmed that its product development and community initiatives will remain fully operational. According to OnePlus, all existing warranties, software updates, and user commitments will continue without interruption. This declaration aims to alleviate concerns amid the swirling rumors of an operational shutdown.

Leadership Changes and Market Speculations

Speculations about a possible reduction of operations have intensified following the announcement of Rubin Liu’s resignation, the CEO of OnePlus India, who is set to step down on March 31. Liu’s departure is part of a personal decision to return to China. Prior to this announcement, he had dismissed claims regarding a shutdown of operations in various regions, labeling such assertions as misinformation while assuring stakeholders of the continuity of the company’s operations.

Future Operations and Strategic Direction

Despite Liu’s exit and the shift towards leveraging Oppo’s service network, OnePlus has confirmed that its operations in India will persist according to the existing business strategy. In an official statement regarding Liu’s resignation, the company indicated that no immediate changes to its local operations are anticipated. Further clarity on the company’s strategic direction in India is expected to emerge in the upcoming days, as stakeholders seek reassurance amidst the unfolding situation.

Context for Recent Developments

The speculation surrounding OnePlus’s potential downsizing accelerated after a report indicated the company has been quietly scaling back its presence in certain markets. The report suggested that shipments experienced a decline in 2024, with some product lines being canceled and staff reductions occurring in the US and European markets. It also claimed that decision-making has increasingly shifted to China, which may have contributed to a decrease in launches in Western regions.
