Noida to Get Double-Decker Electric Buses: Transport Department

Noida’s public transport system will get a boost after receiving double-decker electric buses to run between Botanical Garden Metro Station and Greater Noida West, according to officials. Of these eight buses, four will operate between Botanical Garden and Pari Chowk, while the remaining four will run deeper into the Greater Noida West region.

Officials have also stated that the routes and stops of these buses are still under consideration, and announcements regarding the same can be expected soon. Surveys are being conducted to finalise the route for the four buses, for which infrastructure constraints such as underpasses and foot overbridges will be taken into consideration. This will ensure safe passage for the buses without any obstructions. The authorities are looking to launch a trial run around mid-July.

Bus Schedule Releases Soon

Earlier in the plan, the buses were to be transported to Noida by road; however, due to a lack of charging facilities along the route, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation has now decided to bring them by rail. “Buses are expected to arrive by mid-July… These double-decker buses are expected to provide a safe and more reliable option,” said Manoj Kumar, the Regional Manager at Gautam Budh Nagar.

The authorities state that the buses will run on service lanes to avoid congestion on the main road and reduce the chances of flyover-related accidents. A large number of private buses are already operating between Botanical Garden and Pari Chowk. However, commuters have raised repeated complaints about the high prices, lack of designated stops, and overcrowding in these buses.

The fare structure for the new services will also be announced soon after careful inspection and survey.
