The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a combination of rain and thunderstorms is anticipated on Saturday, September 19, as signs of the southwest monsoon’s withdrawal from India become evident. The IMD noted that conditions are becoming suitable for the monsoon to retreat from select regions in West Rajasthan around the same date.

Additionally, the formation of a low-pressure area is anticipated over the Andaman Sea and nearby areas. This development has the potential to impact rainfall activities in the eastern and southern regions of the country in the following days.

Rainfall Predictions for Northern India

In northern India, areas including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad are expected to experience isolated to scattered rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Similar weather conditions are forecasted for Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

In the plains, the states of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall and thunderstorms on September 18 and 19. East Uttar Pradesh is predicted to experience rain continuing until September 20, while East Rajasthan is expected to see increased precipitation starting Saturday.

The IMD has specifically warned of the likelihood of isolated heavy rainfall in East Rajasthan on September 19, further highlighting the changing weather patterns in these regions.

Expectations for Central and Western India

In central India, both West and East Madhya Pradesh are projected to receive fairly widespread to widespread rain along with thunderstorms on September 18 and 19. The Vidarbha region is also expected to witness significant rainfall during this timeframe.

Gujarat Region in western India is forecasted to experience fairly widespread to extensive rainfall on the same dates. Areas such as Saurashtra and Kutch may see isolated to scattered rainfall events. Moreover, the IMD has issued a warning for very heavy rainfall in Gujarat Region on September 18, while Madhya Maharashtra is set to experience heavy rain on Saturday.

Continued Rain in Eastern and Southern India

In eastern India, states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal are expected to remain active with ongoing rain and thunderstorms. Significant lightning activity is also likely in Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, which could pose additional concerns.

The southern states, including Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep, are expected to receive fairly widespread to extensive rainfall over the coming days. Other states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Rayalaseema will also experience varying intensities of rain and thunderstorms.
