On the morning of Raksha Bandhan, a tragic incident unfolded on the Nagpur–Jabalpur National Highway when a man was left with no choice but to tie his wife’s body to his bike and ride away after no one came forward to help.
Amit Yadav, 35, and his wife Gyarsi were travelling from Nagpur’s Lonara to their hometown Karanpur in Madhya Pradesh when a speeding truck struck their two-wheeler near Morphata, a location under Deolapar police limits. The impact knocked Gyarsi onto the road, and moments later, she was run over by the same vehicle, which didn’t stop and fled the scene.
Amit Begged for Help
Amit, overwhelmed and in shock, begged passing vehicles for help. “Nobody was prepared to stop the car and help him, and nobody showed humanity,” he later said. After trying in vain to get assistance, he tied his wife’s lifeless body to his two-wheeler in a desperate attempt to take her back home.
The horrifying sight was captured in a video that later went viral on social media. In the clip, Amit can be seen riding with the body of his wife tied to his bike, crying for help. According to reports, the footage was filmed by police officers before they stopped him on the highway.
Police Intercept Man Carrying Wife’s Body, Await Autopsy Report
The police eventually managed to intercept him and took possession of the body. It was then sent for a post-mortem at the Indira Gandhi Medical College in Nagpur. Officials have filed a case of accidental death and are waiting for the autopsy report before proceeding further.
Originally from Seoni in Madhya Pradesh, Amit and Gyarsi had been living in the Koradi area of Nagpur for the past ten years. Their journey on August 9 was meant to be a visit back to their village, but it ended in tragedy and trauma that has left many questioning the lack of humanity on the roads that day.
