Jokihat assembly constituency is becoming the hottest seat among the six assembly constituencies of Araria district in Bihar. Where three former ministers of Bihar government are in the election arena against each other. Of which two are sons of former Union Minister Late Taslimuddin. Former MP from Jan Suraj, Sarfaraz Alam has given his candidature. Outgoing MLA Shahnawaz Alam is the RJD candidate. Apart from the elder and younger brother, former JDU minister Manjar Alam has given his candidature. Whereas in the last 2020 assembly elections, after Shahnawaz Alam, who won the election on AIMIM ticket, joined RJD along with five MLAs, AIMIM has fielded its five-time chief Murshid Alam in the electoral arena this time. Due to which the politics of Jokihat has become heated in the district.
Sarfaraz Alam entered politics in 1996
Late, who was a personality of Seemanchal. Taslimuddin’s elder son Sarfaraz Alam entered politics in 1996. He got the opportunity to represent Jokihat assembly four times. Apart from this, after the death of the then Araria MP Taslimuddin, he also got a chance to represent Araria Lok Sabha constituency as MP in the by-election held in 2018. But in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he had to be defeated by BJP’s Pradeep Kumar Singh. He got a chance to represent in the Assembly in 1996, 2000, 2010 and 2015. Sarfaraz Alam got the opportunity to represent Jokihat for the first and second term as RJD candidate and for the third and fourth term as JDU candidate.
In 2018, when JDU formed an alliance with BJP, he broke his ties with JDU and joined RJD. But he faced defeat as an RJD candidate in the 2020 assembly elections. However, with the victory of his brother Shahnawaz Alam as AIMIM candidate and joining RJD, he was deprived of the ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. After which he left RJD and a few days ago joined Jan Suraj in front of Prashant Kishore. This time in the elections, Jan is in the arena as Suraj’s candidate. Sarfaraz Alam was also a minister in many important ministries in the Bihar government including the Building Construction Department.
