The CSR Journal Magazine

Jokihat assembly constituency is becoming the hottest seat among the six assembly constituencies of Araria district in Bihar. Where three former ministers of Bihar government are in the election arena against each other. Of which two are sons of former Union Minister Late Taslimuddin. Former MP from Jan Suraj, Sarfaraz Alam has given his candidature. Outgoing MLA Shahnawaz Alam is the RJD candidate. Apart from the elder and younger brother, former JDU minister Manjar Alam has given his candidature. Whereas in the last 2020 assembly elections, after Shahnawaz Alam, who won the election on AIMIM ticket, joined RJD along with five MLAs, AIMIM has fielded its five-time chief Murshid Alam in the electoral arena this time. Due to which the politics of Jokihat has become heated in the district.

Sarfaraz Alam entered politics in 1996

Late, who was a personality of Seemanchal. Taslimuddin’s elder son Sarfaraz Alam entered politics in 1996. He got the opportunity to represent Jokihat assembly four times. Apart from this, after the death of the then Araria MP Taslimuddin, he also got a chance to represent Araria Lok Sabha constituency as MP in the by-election held in 2018. But in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he had to be defeated by BJP’s Pradeep Kumar Singh. He got a chance to represent in the Assembly in 1996, 2000, 2010 and 2015. Sarfaraz Alam got the opportunity to represent Jokihat for the first and second term as RJD candidate and for the third and fourth term as JDU candidate.

In 2018, when JDU formed an alliance with BJP, he broke his ties with JDU and joined RJD. But he faced defeat as an RJD candidate in the 2020 assembly elections. However, with the victory of his brother Shahnawaz Alam as AIMIM candidate and joining RJD, he was deprived of the ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. After which he left RJD and a few days ago joined Jan Suraj in front of Prashant Kishore. This time in the elections, Jan is in the arena as Suraj’s candidate. Sarfaraz Alam was also a minister in many important ministries in the Bihar government including the Building Construction Department.

Manjar Alam was a soldier of JDU since the beginning

Manjar Alam was a JDU soldier from the beginning. In the 2000 assembly elections, Manjar Alam, as a JDU candidate, was defeated by RJD’s Sarf Alam. But JDU’s Manjar Alam won the 2005 assembly elections and became the Minister of Minority Welfare Department of Bihar Government. But JDU did not give this ticket in 2010 and 2015 elections and in both these elections JDU candidate Sarfaraz Alam won. Under the alliance in the 2020 assembly elections, this seat went to BJP’s account and Manjar Alam had to remain empty handed this time too. In this election, Shahnawaz Alam of AIMIM defeated his brother Sarfaraz Alam, the RJD candidate. After twenty years, once again the JDU high command has expressed confidence and made Manjar Alam its candidate in the election battle of Jokihat.

Shahnawaz Alam’s entry into politics in 2020 by defeating his brother

Shahnawaz Alam entered the politics of Jokihat in the 2020 assembly elections. In this election, as AIMIM candidate, he entered the arena against his own brother Sarfaraz Alam of RJD and defeated him. Shahnawaz Alam got 59,596 votes in the 2020 assembly elections. While RJD’s Sarfaraz Alam got 52,213 votes. Whereas BJP’s Ranjit Yadav had received 48,933 votes. In this election, AIMIM created a stir in the politics of Bihar by winning six seats in Bihar. But after JDU’s separation from NDA, Sarfaraz Alam joined RJD along with his other AIMIM colleagues. After the change of power in Bihar, when the Grand Alliance government was formed, Shahnawaz Alam was made the Minister of Disaster Management Department of Bihar.
