A 31-year-old MSc Physics student at IIT Delhi has tragically passed away after jumping from the sixth floor of the Lecture Hall Complex on Saturday morning. The incident occurred at around 8.33 am on August 22, when local police received a report of the incident. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, where the injured student was quickly transported to the campus hospital. Unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival.

According to police reports, the deceased had entered the campus through the main gate at approximately 8 am. Following his entry, he made his way to the Lecture Hall Complex, took a lift to the sixth floor, and reportedly jumped from the front of the building. The deceased, a resident of Bihar, was enrolled in the second year of the MSc Physics programme.

No Suicide Note Found

Investigative teams from the Crime and Forensic Science Laboratory conducted a thorough examination of the scene to collect evidence. Preliminary findings revealed no external injuries on the body apart from those consistent with the fall. Importantly, a suicide note was not located at the site.

A mobile phone discovered in the student’s pocket has been confiscated by the authorities and will undergo analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. This may provide additional insights into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police are closely monitoring the situation and are in the process of gathering all pertinent information from the institution to assist in their inquiries.

Student’s Mental Health History

Sources have reported that the student had been receiving treatment for mental health issues prior to the incident. During this period, he had been residing off-campus with his mother. Furthermore, it has come to light that he had been admitted to VIMHANS Hospital for his mental health treatment.

In response to the incident, authorities are also seeking counselling records and any relevant documents from IIT Delhi that may shed light on the student’s mental health status. These records will be crucial in understanding his situation leading up to the tragic event.

The police are working diligently to verify the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and to identify the underlying reasons that may have contributed to this extreme action. Legal proceedings and further investigations are in progress, as officials look to gather comprehensive details.
