Delhi Government Starts Verification Process for Ration Card Holders

The new BJP government in Delhi has started E-verification of ration card holders to weed out fraudsters. Under this process, the ration card holders will have to provide proof of possession of an Aadhaar number or authenticate their Aadhaar card with the ration cards.

Focus on Ration Card Holders

Various schemes by the Delhi government like the Mahila Samriddhi scheme (₹2500 per month to women), Ujjwala Yojana (Free LPG connections to promote clean cooking fuel) and Ayushman Bharat (health insurance cover up to ₹5,00,000 per family) already have an income limit for which residents of Delhi require a legitimate ration card. That is why the government has started the process of verifying the ration card of Delhi.
Many ration card holders in Delhi have biometric-based smart ration cards, which are linked to their Aadhaar card. But after 2013, the verification process, which is done every five years, did not take place.
This year’s verification process also aims to remove card holders who may have died or people who keep a ration card just for proof of residence. Delhi residents can use the mobile app ‘Mera E-KYC’ launched by the centre to verify the details from their home until March 31.
