The Delhi Government has extended its current electric vehicle policy till March 2026 or until the notification of a new policy. Whichever is earlier according to the official. The decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, at the Delhi Secretariat on Tuesday.

The Delhi EV policy was introduced in 2020. After its initial expiration in August 2023, it has been extended multiple times. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said that there was a need for a broader dialogue in public participation to develop a future-ready, inclusive and stronger policy, and so this extension is being made

“The extension will enable the transport department to conduct comprehensive consultations with all stakeholders, including citizens, industry, leaders, academic experts, and environmental groups in both public and private institutions. These discussions will focus on enhancing EV charging infrastructure, reviewing existing incentives and subsidies, establishing robust waste and battery disposal mechanisms, and clearly defining public-private roles in Delhi’s evolving EV ecosystem,”  said Minister Singh

The new EV policy will be designed in close connection to the government’s Green Delhi vision, which aims to transform the capital city into a clean sustainable urban mobility model

“ with several new provisions in the pipeline, revised policy will introduce stronger more future Reddy framework to accelerate EV adoption, strengthen charging infrastructure, promote innovation and ensure environmental account,” sing further at

The Delhi cabinet first picked up the EV policy for discussion on April 15, but did not approve the proposal in the draft policy that suggested facing out CNG autorickshaws and other fossil fuel base two wheelers in the next two years. Other provisions of the Paul draft policy were also not approved like hundred percent EV uptake in Delhi in the next three years facing out CNG power, three wheelers and replacing them with electric autorickshaws by August 2025. The draft also suggested that petrol diesel and CNG2 wheeler registration will not be allowed after August 15,, 2026.

According to the minister subsidy cap on cheaper, EV is likely to be retained in the revised policy.

“ the first draft has suggested that subsidies will be kept at EV that cost less than ₹25,00,000 while the costly ones will have to pay applicable taxes. This move is aimed at ensuring that manufacturers make more affordable EV options available for the public.,” Pankaj Singh.
