Delhi Assembly to Save a Crore Using Solar Energy

In a push to ensure that the Delhi assembly operates entirely on solar energy, the lieutenant governor, VK Saxena, laid the foundation stone for a 500 kw solar power plant inside the Delhi assembly premises on Monday.

The solar power generation capacity of the legislative assembly will be pushed from 200 kw to 500 kw and will cover the assembly’s entire energy needs. This will, in turn, yield monthly savings of ₹15 lakh.

“Today’s foundation stone is not just for a solar plant. It’s for a cleaner future rooted in responsible governance,” said the Delhi LG.

Savings Up to One Crore Annually

Assembly speaker, Vijendra Gupta, also said that the government’s solar energy initiative will encourage more people to adopt this on their private properties.

“I hope that the people of Delhi would be inspired to adopt solar energy, noting that the savings from the assembly’s electric expense, estimated at ₹1.75 crore annually, will be redirected towards developmental work,” he added.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also underlined the initiative and said that it aligns with the central government’s PM Surya Ghar Yojana and affirmed that the Delhi government is going to provide all possible assistance to Delhi residents to adopt solar power plants. Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) minister Pravesh Sahib Singh and several other MLA and senior officers also supported the move.
