The Punjab Kings (PBKS) continued their impressive form in the IPL 2025 season by defeating the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by eight wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on Tuesday. Chasing down a target of 172 runs, PBKS achieved the target with 16.2 overs to spare while winning their second consecutive victory on the trot in the tournament.
Punjab Kings Performance
On winning the toss, PBKS elected to field first and displayed a complete all-round performance, beginning with a great bowling effort to restrict LSG to 171/7. Arshdeep Singh went on to claim three very important wickets, bowling 3 overs and conceding 43 runs, making him the star bowler for Punjab. He struck out the other opener, Mitchell Marsh, without scoring on the very first ball, thereby setting the tone for the LSG batting order’s struggle-indeed, his strikes in the last over ensured that the home side did not have much of a death-over flourish.
Nicholas Pooran was the pillar of LSG’s score with a well-made 44 off 30 balls, thus continuing his form this season. Ayush Badoni played well alongside him, scoring 41 off 33 balls, while Abdul Samad scored 27 off just 12 balls to give a final flourish. However, these contributions were not enough, given PBKS batting had the capability to chase down LSG total.
Prabhsimran Singh led the charge for Punjab, scoring a blistering 69 off 34 balls with nine fours and three sixes. His aggressive batting during the powerplay stripped the LSG bowling of its confidence and gave PBKS a nice little start. Captain Shreyas Iyer offered great support on the other end with an unbeaten 52 off 30 balls for his second consecutive fifty of the season. Nehal Wadhera provided pivotal assistance, scoring an uninterrupted 43 runs off 25 balls to ensure that the chase was never in trouble.
PBKS Rise to Second Spot in Points Table
This win has put PBKS in the Platinum position at the IPL points table joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals among the three unbeaten teams yet this season. Both batting and bowling streaks from this team give them an edge over others in advancing to playoffs.
A loss for LSG is the second in their account for the last three matches played. Now they’re placed at the sixth position in the points table. Even if there are good individual performances in the tournaments, they faded against a strong Punjab attack.
World football looks full of Prabhsimran Singh’s fireworks, some great bowling of Arshdeep Singh. The only bright light for LSG featured Digvesh Rathi, with digits of 2/30 from his four overs.
