Indians increasingly turning to international destinations for leisure and exploration needs: Report
Indian travellers are increasingly turning to international destinations for their leisure and exploration needs. A recent analysis of consumer search trends by Justdial, India’s No.1 local search engine, has revealed a significant uptick in searches related to international travel, indicating a growing desire for diverse experiences.
The data spanning from January 2023 to August 2023 and January 2024 to August 2024 shows a substantial 17% increase in travel-related searches across India. Surprisingly, non-metro cities outpaced metro centres in terms of search activity, with a remarkable 129% increase in 2023 and 126% in 2024, indicating a growing interest in travel beyond major urban centres.
Several countries witnessed significant spikes in searches, including Israel (266%), the Gulf (105%), Europe (49%), Australia (47%), Japan (26%), Schengen (25%), and Turkey (23%). This demonstrates a growing desire among Indian travellers to explore diverse destinations around the world.
As Indian travellers explore a wider range of international destinations, the demand for professional guidance and comprehensive travel solutions has also surged. Among the most sought-after categories were travel agents, international travel agents, tour packages, and visa assistance. This indicates that travellers are seeking expert advice to navigate the complexities of international travel and ensure a seamless experience.
In 2024, searches of Visa assistance and tour packages for these foreign destinations were concentrated in specific regions. For instance, Israel was popular in Lucknow, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, while the Gulf was primarily searched in Mumbai. This regional preference highlights how travel interests vary across India, shaping localized demand for international destinations.
The growing interest in international travel, particularly to countries like Israel, despite recent news coverage, suggests a shift in consumer sentiment and a desire for unique experiences. This, coupled with the increasing number of Indian travellers exploring diverse destinations, indicates a positive outlook for the future of international tourism in India.

Mumbai Teen Empowers Children with Learning Disabilities through Innovative App

Mumbai Teen Empowers Children with Learning Disabilities through Innovative App
Mumbai, India: Ahana Dalmia, a high school student, is breaking new ground in educational technology with an initiative aimed at supporting children with learning disabilities, ADHD, and ADD. Her innovative app, designed to enhance memory, language, and cognitive skills, is making waves, not only in India but globally.
Ahana’s journey began during her volunteer work with Magic Bus, an NGO focused on empowering children from marginalized communities. Witnessing firsthand the struggles of children with learning disabilities, as well as those faced by her cousins, she was inspired to take action. A tech enthusiast who has been coding since the age of eight, Ahana set out to develop a digital solution that could make learning more accessible and enjoyable for children with special educational needs.
Her app, which features seven interactive games, is designed to improve vocabulary, focus, and memory retention. To ensure its effectiveness, Ahana collaborated with certified psychologists to develop game categories tailored to children with learning disabilities. One standout feature is “bionic reading,” a unique approach that helps enhance reading speed and comprehension by guiding the user’s eye focus.
Since its launch, the app has achieved over 3,500 downloads, proving its effectiveness and popularity among parents, educators, and children alike. Ahana’s dedication doesn’t end with the app; she has organized workshops across 30 schools and 3 NGOs in India to help children and teachers understand how to best use this tool in classrooms and beyond.
The app’s impact has earned the attention of the Akanksha Foundation, a leading non-profit in the field of education, which has adopted it as part of its curriculum. This recognition underscores the potential of Ahana’s work to transform how children with learning disabilities approach their education.
Developed using state-of-the-art technology, including React Native, .NET, SQL Database, and Azure, the app showcases Ahana’s technical prowess and innovative thinking. More importantly, it highlights her empathetic approach to solving real-world challenges.
With this initiative, Ahana is setting a powerful example of how young minds can harness technology to address critical societal needs. Her app is not only helping children with learning disabilities but is also paving the way for more inclusive education across India.

Work Life Balance: Practice of Non-Violence in Corporate Culture

Work Life Balance: Practice of Non-Violence in Corporate Culture
A 26-year-old chartered accountant, who was an employee of EY member firm SR Batliboi, lost her life because of work-related stress. Anna Sebastian passed away in July, four months after she started working at the firm. Sebastian died in July, four months after joining the firm.
Her parents alleged that work-related pressure played a critical role in her demise. “Workload, new environment, and long hours took a toll on her physically, emotionally, and mentally” her mother Anita Augustine wrote in a letter to EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani.
In another case, a 42-year-old employee of Bajaj Finance took his life because he was unable to bear the pressure of meeting the targets imposed by his seniors at the organisation.

Toxic Work Culture in Corporates

India is a developing country with the largest population in the world. The companies across the world are looking to set up their offices in India as the country provides for much affordable labour, which in turn could help the companies increase their profits.
However, since there is plenty of labour available in the country, the employees are forced to go out of their way to please their employers, believing that they are easily replaceable. This, in turn, has led to extremely poor work-life balance among the employees. On the other hand, as the employees perform well, the companies have raised their expectations towards them, thus, further contributing to increasing stress.
Employees in India are expected to work late without expecting any financial incentive. They are expected to forgo holidays, and work even on weekends, without any consideration of their social lives. And they are not provided with enough time for self-care and mental well-being.

ICAI’s New Initiatives to promote Work-Life Balance

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has launched new initiatives to focus on addressing the critical issues of work-life balance and stress management within the profession. The organisation has established a dedicated group led by Seema Gerotra, Additional Director for Work-Life Balance and Stress Management, to implement initiatives designed to improve work-life harmony and alleviate stress for professionals.
ICAI has been organising a number of health and wellness activities, including health awareness camps, stress management webinars, yoga sessions, motivational talks, walkathons, and marathons, with an aim to fostering mental and physical well-being.
ICAI’s existing Grievance Redressal Cell handles concerns from members, students, and employees. The organisation has states that it is working towards enhancing this system to provide more structured and compassionate resolutions.
ICAI also announced plans to collaborate with health institutions to launch stress management programs, including counseling services and mental health support for members and students. Additionally, ICAI has stated that it will partner with industry stakeholders to encourage flexible working arrangements, such as remote work, flexible hours, and wellness programs, to help professionals better manage their personal and professional responsibilities.
To further support its members, ICAI is developing peer networks that allow members to share experiences, seek advice, and collaborate on addressing stress-related challenges. The institute also intends to introduce a dedicated counseling helpline through its National Call Centre (9997599975) to provide support on stress management and work-life balance.
“Employees are the cornerstone of any organization, and their well-being is crucial for its success. We urge organizations to adopt balanced work policies that promote employee health and reduce stress. By focusing on the mental and physical health of their workforce, organizations can create a more productive, resilient, and innovative environment,” said CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, President of ICAI.

Violence in Corporate Culture

Mahatma Gandhi was a major advocate of non-violence and Ahimsa. His philosophy of non-violence was not limited to avoiding physical combat. It also included non-violence in thoughts, intentions and spirituality. The current corporate culture clearly does not adhere to this, considering the fact that there are lives being lost, and the people surviving are suffering through extreme stress, and other mental health issues. Today, on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, it is essential to take a look at the existing work culture of corporates in India, and to work towards imbibing non-violence at work to ensure the health and well being of the employees.

Our goal is to empower these students to not only excel academically but to emerge as the next generation of IT professionals and leaders, equipped with the skills and confidence to drive tomorrow’s digital economy.”
Speaking further on the initiative, Studeasy Co-founder & Director, Lehar Tawde said, “We are pleased to be supported by Arcil in our mission to provide Quality Education to Govt. school students. Our Blended Learning Program with Arcil benefits over 10,000 underprivileged students across 30 Govt. schools, spread over 3 States in India. The program brings to life the Government’s vision to leverage technology to provide Govt. school students with Quality Education; not only in classrooms, but also at home, during their self-study time. Our association with Arcil has just started and, in time to come, we hope to empower Govt. school students across every State in India, and enable them to contribute to the India growth story.”
Through this partnership, Arcil is supporting the implementation of a digital Classroom infrastructure, a powerful integration of low-cost, hyper-scalable technologies, designed to offer students in government schools a better learning experience. The project, which includes the installation of 55” Smart TVs in classrooms with an access to customised software that allows for the seamless delivery of educational content both in school and at home through SBF’s Blended-Class Program. This unique model enables students from Classes 5-10 to access state-syllabi-based lectures, assessments, and educational videos in vernacular languages, ensuring an inclusive approach to learning.
In the initial three phases during 2024, digital classrooms were set up in 10 schools each across Jhajjar and Bhiwani districts in Haryana, Dewas district in Madhya Pradesh, and schools in Goa. The program is designed to engage both students and teachers, with SBF sharing valuable learning insights based on students’ progress to them and to Arcil to monitor progress of students and overall benefits of the programme. This data helps teachers refine their lesson plans, resulting in improved learning outcomes and educational development.
SBF’s innovative approach aligns with Arcil’s commitment to promoting educational equity. By providing digital infrastructure, the initiative bridges the gap between urban and rural education, offering students the opportunity to enhance their learning experience both inside and outside the classroom using the same software on their own/family digital platforms viz mobiles, computers etc.
With a strong focus on student engagement and teacher support, this program exemplifies Arcil’s long-term vision of fostering a future-ready workforce. As India’s digital economy continues to grow, Arcil’s CSR efforts will remain dedicated to ensuring that students in rural areas are not left behind in this transformation.

IIT Bombay partners with ABB India to set up state-of-the-art electrical machines and drives lab

IIT Bombay partners with ABB India to set up state-of-the-art electrical machines and drives lab
Mumbai, India: The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has partnered with ABB India to establish a cutting-edge teaching laboratory for electrical machines and drives at the Department of Energy Science and Engineering on its campus. This partnership aims to provide undergraduate and postgraduate students with hands-on experience using modern industrial equipment and prepare undergraduate and post-graduate students for future roles in the fast-evolving energy and industrial sectors while promoting environmental sustainability.
The teaching lab will feature energy-efficient, mechanically coupled electrical machine sets, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), focusing on delivering practical training in electrical machines and drives. The laboratory will emulate various industrial applications, including those used in wind turbine generators and electric vehicle drivetrains, ensuring that students understand modern energy systems comprehensively. With support from ABB India, the lab will help foster the next generation of engineers, equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to innovate once they join the industry in the future sustainably.
Commenting on the partnership, Sanjeev Arora, President, Motion Business, ABB India said, “We are humbled to partner with the premier education institute IIT Bombay to support the institute in nurturing the next generation of engineers who are well-equipped to address the evolving demands of the industrial sectors with a focus on energy efficiency and conservation. The advanced technologies used in the new lab are innovative and sustainable in nature, ensuring that future engineers prioritize sustainability in their careers while contributing to a more resource-efficient world.”
Electrical machines and drives are integral to a wide array of industrial applications. With advancements in power electronics and control strategies, different kinds of electrical machines have emerged to meet application-specific performance needs. As industries increasingly adopt modern energy-efficient technologies, it is imperative for engineering students and research graduates to have a strong understanding of these innovations.
Highlighting the significance of this partnership, Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, remarked, “IIT Bombay’s partnership with ABB India marks a significant step toward empowering our students with advanced technical expertise and a deep understanding of sustainable energy systems. This state-of-the-art lab will provide immersive, hands-on training in cutting-edge technologies that mirror real-world industrial applications. Our goal is to nurture engineers who are not only skilled innovators but also champions of energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, prepared to lead the way in shaping a sustainable and resource-efficient future.”
Previously, IIT Roorkee had partnered with ABB India for technical cooperation to construct an operational smart electricity distribution network and management system (SDNMS) on its campus. In partnership with the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research (NITTTR) Chandigarh, ABB India set up a first-of-its-kind multi-physics digital simulation center in 2019. In addition, the company runs other up-skilling programs and engages with the youth to make them employable.
In Faridabad, ABB India collaborated with Udayan Care to run a Community Information Technology and Skill Center. The center aims to support girls from economically disadvantaged families in becoming self-reliant by undertaking IT and vocational training. ABB India had also signed an MoU to refurbish the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) located in the Peenya Industrial Area, one of the oldest industrial areas in Bengaluru, under its CSR initiatives.
