Details of the Jamui Incident

One of the most alarming incidents happened in Jamui, where two Class 10 students faced harassment from a group of men while returning from a coaching class. The two minors had visited the popular Madwa Pahad, a local hill destination, on Saturday evening. They were reportedly attacked on their scooter by a group of men who stopped them, verbally abused them, and forced them off the vehicle. Although the students attempted to flee, the group allegedly pursued and assaulted them.

A member of the group recorded the harassment, and the disturbing footage was later shared online, prompting outrage from the public. Following this incident, authorities detained three minors accused of participating in the harassment of the students, highlighting the urgency of addressing such criminal behaviour.

This incident not only raises questions about the safety of young individuals in public spaces but also illuminates an apparent failure in policing and community safety measures in the region.

Incident in Samastipur

A similar distressing incident occurred in Samastipur, where a minor girl faced abuse and harassment from a group of men. This assault unfolded when the girl, alongside a boy, was approached while they were conversing on a local embankment. Initially, the men directed their hostility at the boy, who was forced to flee, subsequently turning their aggression towards the girl.

Witnesses reported that the men verbally abused and physically harassed the girl, with footage from the encounter circulating on social media. The video depicts the men grabbing the girl by her hands and hair, making lewd remarks as she resisted. The public reaction has been one of horror and demands for action against such intolerable behaviour.

Video from Banka Amplifies Concerns

Another incident that has deepened the concerns surrounding women’s safety in Bihar took place in Banka. A video showing a woman being harassed and assaulted by a group of unidentified young men has been widely circulated online. This incident, which reportedly occurred at Mandar Hill, a notable tourist and pilgrimage destination, is currently under investigation by the police.

A complaint has been officially lodged, and six unnamed individuals are facing allegations in connection with this incident. The timestamp on the footage indicates it was recorded on September 3, further intensifying calls for a review of law enforcement strategies and protocols.

The troubling nature of these incidents in Jamui, Samastipur, and Banka has underscored the urgent need for improved safety measures and a re-evaluation of the effectiveness of the Bihar Police.
