Bhopal Metro Project Advances to New Phase with Underground Tunnel Construction

The Bhopal Metro Project has reached a significant milestone as the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) officially commenced the construction of an underground tunnel. The initiation of tunnel excavation was celebrated on March 31, with MPMRCL officials and staff in attendance to mark this development.

Introduction of Advanced Tunnel Boring Machine

A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was unveiled during the event, heralding the start of tunnel construction. This advanced equipment is designed to conduct excavation in densely populated urban environments, providing increased safety, precision, and efficiency. An official statement highlighted the importance of this machinery in facilitating the project’s objectives.

Commitment to Timely and Quality Construction

S. Krishna Chaitanya, Managing Director of MPMRCL, congratulated the team involved in the project. He emphasized the need to maintain a steady pace of development and ensured that all construction activities would adhere strictly to established timelines, quality benchmarks, and safety protocols.

Tunnel Excavation at a Depth of 24 Meters

The TBM has been successfully positioned at a depth of approximately 24 meters, which marks the official start of the tunnel construction phase. The TBM’s capability is expected to expedite the overall construction process, allowing for smoother progress as the excavation work continues.

The first phase of the Bhopal Metro service was officially launched on December 22, with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar marking the occasion. This inaugural phase signifies a key improvement in the urban transport infrastructure of Bhopal.

Details of the Orange Line Priority Corridor

This initial phase encompasses a 7-kilometer stretch and comprises eight elevated stations. Designed as part of the Orange Line “Priority Corridor,” this segment is expected to provide residents with quick, reliable access throughout the city, ultimately improving daily commuting experiences.
