Asia Record Alert: Gruner’s Satna Plant Reaches 23.5 Tonnes CBG Per Day

The CSR Journal Magazine

Gruner Renewable Energy has set a notable record in the clean energy sector of India, achieving a production level of 23.5 tonnes per day (TPD) of Compressed BioGas (CBG) at its plant in Satna, Madhya Pradesh. This accomplishment marks the highest single-day output ever recorded by a CBG facility in Asia.

The Satna plant is currently operating at 120 per cent of its intended capacity, a remarkable figure considering that many similar facilities typically function at only 40 to 50 per cent utilisation. This exceptional performance positions the Satna plant among the most efficient bioenergy assets globally.

This achievement underscores India’s advancing capabilities in establishing high-quality bioenergy infrastructure, particularly in transforming agricultural and organic waste into sustainable energy sources.

International Expertise and Technological Integration

A crucial element contributing to the success of the Satna plant is the access to international expertise offered by Gruner New Inergie Deutschland GmbH, the technical excellence centre located in Germany. With over 25 years of experience, this centre has been involved in more than 500 bioenergy and biogas projects worldwide.

The focus of the Satna facility is to convert agricultural residues, such as paddy straw, into renewable fuel. This process not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions and enhances waste management but also provides an additional revenue stream for local farmers while bolstering India’s energy independence.

This blend of innovation and efficient management highlights the potential for bioenergy to contribute significantly to India’s energy landscape and environmental sustainability initiatives.

Impact on Rural Development and Employment

Utkarsh Gupta, Founder and CEO of Gruner Renewable Energy, commented on the production milestone, highlighting it as a testament to India’s capability of developing competitive renewable energy infrastructure that aligns economic benefits with environmental sustainability.

Mehmet Oenal, COO of Gruner New Inergie Deutschland GmbH, referred to this achievement as a groundbreaking moment for India’s bioenergy sector, pointing to the nation’s growing expertise and ambition in renewable energy development.

This accomplishment aligns with India’s broader efforts to accelerate its clean energy transition, as seen in initiatives like the SATAT Programme and the National Bioenergy Programme aimed at promoting renewable energy sources across the country.

Gruner Renewable Energy maintains a robust order book exceeding ₹4,500 crore, with over 72 CBG projects actively under development across various states. The company’s initiatives are anticipated to foster rural employment opportunities, support farmers, and encourage circular economy practices, thus contributing to India’s long-term sustainability and net-zero objectives.

Specialising in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) solutions for CBG projects, Gruner Renewable Energy integrates global engineering know-how with local implementation capabilities. Currently, the company has more than 60 projects in various stages of development throughout India, along with a substantial order pipeline exceeding ₹4,500 crore dedicated to enhancing the country’s bioenergy infrastructure.
