The CSR Journal Magazine

A routine moment inside a village home in Punjab turned fatal on Monday when a firearm carried by a man discharged unexpectedly, killing him in front of his family. The incident took place in Dhani Sucha Singh village of Firozepur district and was captured on CCTV installed inside the house.

The victim, Harpinder Singh alias Sonu, had recently returned to India after living abroad and had settled back in the village. Police said he was seated on a sofa with a relative when he got up, triggering the pistol holstered at his waist to fire. The bullet struck him in the abdomen.

CCTV visuals show relatives rushing towards Harpinder moments after the gunshot and helping him out of the room. He was first taken to a government hospital, from where doctors referred him to another facility due to his critical condition. He died while being shifted to Bathinda for further treatment.

Police Record Father’s Statement, Send Body for Postmortem

Police later sent the body for postmortem examination. Station House Officer Ravinder Sharma of Sadar Police Station recorded the statement of Harpinder’s father, Darshan Singh, and initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family.

Officials said they are examining how the firearm was being carried and whether safety norms were followed at the time of the incident.

Harpinder had married recently and was the father of a two-year-old daughter. His funeral was held on Tuesday, with residents of the village and leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) attending to pay their respects.
