Abhijeet Dipke Detained as Delhi Police Enhances Security for ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ Protest

The CSR Journal Magazine

Abhijeet Dipke, an activist associated with the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), has been detained by Delhi Police while leaving the residence of Anish Gawande, a spokesperson for the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena (SCP). This incident occurred ahead of the anticipated ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ rally scheduled to take place at Central Park in Connaught Place. A police official informed Dipke of his detention, stating, “We are placing you under preventive detention. Section 163 is in force in Connaught Place. You are being detained.”

Legal Notices Issued to Dipke

Following the detention, Delhi Police issued two formal notices to Dipke, citing restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and a prior undertaking aimed at maintaining public peace. One notice was issued by the New Delhi district under the Delhi Police Act, explicitly directing Dipke not to visit Central Park due to the restrictions imposed. The second notice was issued by the South-West Delhi district and referenced a previous preventive action involving Dipke along with two others, Ashutosh and Saurav, who had been detained at the airport and subsequently produced before a court.

The second notice highlighted a bond that required them to refrain from disturbing public peace for a duration of one year. These legal measures are part of the authorities’ efforts to ensure that the upcoming protest remains peaceful and orderly.

In light of the situation, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar convened a meeting with senior police officials to review security arrangements and evaluate the overall context leading up to the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ rally. The police are taking precautionary steps to prevent any potential disturbances during the event.

Traffic Advisory Issued Ahead of Rally

As part of the preparations for the rally, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) DK Gupta announced that a detailed traffic advisory has been issued. He indicated that areas surrounding Connaught Place are likely to experience disruptions due to the protest. To manage the situation, police personnel have been deployed across these zones to regulate traffic effectively.

Gupta emphasised that should any disruptions occur, timely diversions will be implemented to minimise inconvenience for the public and ensure a smooth flow of traffic. He also noted that the police are actively monitoring social media for any potential threats or disturbances related to the protest.

Commuters have been urged to adhere to the traffic advisory and plan their travel accordingly, taking into account the possibility of disruptions. The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining order and facilitating the movement of traffic during the protest.

Conclusion and Ongoing Monitoring

The developments surrounding Abhijeet Dipke’s detention and the heightened security measures reflect the authorities’ proactive approach to managing the upcoming ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ rally. With legal restrictions in place and a comprehensive traffic management plan, Delhi Police aims to ensure that the event proceeds without incident. The situation will continue to be monitored closely, with adjustments made as necessary to uphold public safety and order.
