Adani Group’s renewable energy solutions providing company Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) announced on Wednesday that it has started power generation at its renewable energy plant in Khavda, Gujarat. The company has operationalised the first 551 MW solar capacity at the plant and started supplying to the national grid.
Announcing the news, Group Chairman Gautam Adani posted on X (Twitter), “Delighted to share that @AdaniGreen has ignited the first capacity of the world’s largest renewable energy project, activating 551 MW of solar power. A testament to our collective dream of sustainability, this milestone in Khavda, Kutch, kickstarts our journey towards a 30 GW green energy plant. It highlights India’s crucial role in the global shift to green energy. Jai Hind.”

30 GW green energy plant

Adani Green plans to develop a 30 GW renewable energy capacity at its Renewable Energy park, which is expected to be operationalised in the next five years. Upon completion, the Khavda Renewable Energy park will be the largest renewable energy installation in the world, as per an announcement made by the company.

“This milestone is a validation of the Adani Group’s commitment and leading role in accelerating India’s equitable clean energy transition journey towards its ambitious goals of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and carbon neutrality,” stated Gautam Adani.
Once the plant is fully operational, it will be able to generate 81 billion units of clean electricity and will be able to power over 16 million households. This development is expected to create more than 15,200 green jobs.
Talking about the massive hybrid renewable energy park in Gujarat in July, 2023, Gautam Adani had announced, “We are building the largest hybrid renewables park in the world, right in the middle of the desert in Khavda. It will be the most complex and ambitious project that we have ever executed. Spread over 72,000 acres, this project will be capable of generating 20 GW of green energy, and we intend to build it faster than any project in our execution history.”

Adani Green Energy Limited

In June 2023, Adani Green Energy Limited was ranked First in Asia and among the top 10 companies globally in the renewable energy sector by ISS ESG. AGEL has the largest operating renewable portfolio in India with 8,216 MW. AGEL has an operating renewable portfolio of over 9 GW, the largest in India, spread across 12 states.
Adani Green develops, builds, owns, operates and maintains utility-scale grid-connected solar and wind projects. The electricity produced is supplied to central and state government entities and government-backed corporations.
AGEL’s fourth wind-solar hybrid power plant became fully operational at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan in early 2023. The combined operational generation capacity of this hybrid power plant is 700 MW. This hybrid power plant consists of a combination of 600 MW solar and 510 MW wind plants and deploys advanced renewable technologies like bifacial solar PV modules and horizontal single-axis trackers (HSAT) systems to enable maximum electricity generation from solar energy.
