Vizianagaram District Attracts Rs 20 Crore in CSR Funds

Vizianagaram, a historic district in the northern part of Andhra Pradesh, has received a major boost for its development works. In the last week of May 2025, the district administration successfully attracted nearly Rs 20 crore through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding from several reputed companies and public sector undertakings. This funding is set to benefit key sectors such as water management, healthcare, and education, promising a brighter future for the people of Vizianagaram.

The largest share of this CSR support has come from Axis Bank, which has committed Rs 15 crore for the improvement of 40 water tanks spread across Nellimarla, Garividi, Gurla, and Merakamudidam mandals. These tanks, located in the Champavathi river basin, are vital for local agriculture and drinking water needs. The funds will be used for dredging and deepening the tanks, strengthening their embankments, planting trees along their borders, and constructing check dams. These efforts are expected to boost water storage, support irrigation for farmers, and help recharge groundwater levels, which is crucial for the region’s sustainability.

Healthcare in Vizianagaram is also set to improve, thanks to the Nuclear Power Corporation of India. The company has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for purchasing new medical equipment for the district’s medical college. This will help doctors and nurses provide better treatment to patients. The same company has also approved Rs 54.5 lakh for building additional classrooms in government schools at Nadipalli and Chintapalli villages in Pusapatirega mandal, showing their commitment to both health and education.

Bharat Dynamics Limited, another major contributor, has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for upgrading classrooms in 37 government schools. The company is also providing Rs 14.5 lakh to improve basic facilities in social welfare hostels and Rs 7.16 lakh for new medical equipment at the Gajapathinagaram area hospital. These steps will help students learn in a better environment and ensure patients in rural areas receive improved medical care.

Power Grid Corporation has also joined hands with the district administration by donating a generator to the Indian Red Cross Society’s blood bank in Vizianagaram. This generator will ensure that the blood bank can function smoothly even during power cuts, which is especially important during emergencies.

Efforts by District Administration

Vizianagaram district, with its headquarters in Vizianagaram city, is known for its rich culture and history. The district administration, led by Collector Dr BR Ambedkar, has worked hard to reach out to companies and encourage them to invest in the district’s growth. The funds received in May 2025 are a result of these efforts and the administration’s focus on transparency and accountability.

Officials have assured that every rupee will be spent wisely and all projects will be closely monitored. The aim is to make a real difference in the lives of the people, especially those living in rural and remote areas. The administration hopes that with continued support from the corporate sector, Vizianagaram will soon emerge as a model district not just in Andhra Pradesh, but in the entire country.

With these new projects set to begin soon, the people of Vizianagaram have reason to look forward to better facilities, improved infrastructure, and a higher quality of life. The district’s success in attracting such a large amount of CSR funding is expected to inspire other districts in the state to follow similar paths for development.
