South Central Railway Unveils Pilot ‘Rail Parcel App’ in Hyderabad

The CSR Journal Magazine

The South Central Railway has initiated a pilot program for the ‘Rail Parcel App’, a pioneering effort within the Indian Railways dedicated to offering a convenient door-to-door parcel booking and delivery service. The launch took place at Rail Nilayam in Hyderabad.

Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager of South Central Railway, expressed pride in the Railway Board’s decision to select their zone for this significant pilot initiative. He recognized the efforts of his teams and industry partners, highlighting their commitment to delivering the project in a notably short timeframe.

Three Key Features for Enhanced Customer Experience

According to Srivastava, the introduction of technology has enabled the implementation of three main features: door-to-door pickup and delivery, online booking, and comprehensive tracking visibility. This service is currently being introduced in seven cities as part of its pilot phase. Srivastava emphasized the vision of the railway to allow anyone in India to conveniently book parcels from their homes. He remarked on the accomplishment of implementing these services in collaboration with various teams and stakeholders.

Collaborative Effort Highlighted in Launch

During the launch, Srivastava commended the efforts put forth by the headquarters team, commercial team, financial accounts team, and particularly the Hyderabad division team, whose dedication, along with support from banking partners such as the State Bank of India, facilitated the project’s rapid development. “We are initiating this pilot project in just seven cities now, but with customer feedback, we aspire for individuals across India to effortlessly book parcels from their homes,” stated Srivastava.

Partnership with IIM Bangalore for Freight Logistics Study

In addition to the app launch, the South Central Railway has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, focusing on a study of the freight logistics market. Srivastava expressed his satisfaction regarding this collaboration, which he believes will provide valuable insights while offering IIM Bangalore a practical environment to test new ideas. This partnership aims to foster innovation and improve freight logistics within the railway sector.
