The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will actively participate in the upcoming Seva Parv, a nationwide environmental campaign to be observed from September 17 to October 2. The campaign aims to plant 1.25 crore saplings across the country, with Uttar Pradesh receiving a target of 15 lakh plantations.
To kick off the campaign on September 17, each of the state’s 34 Nagar Vans will plant at least 100 saplings, reinforcing the state’s commitment to green development. The initiative aims to boost public engagement, with special focus on urban green spaces.
Parallel Environmental Initiatives in UP
Alongside the plantation efforts, the government will also carry out environmental awareness drives, rainwater harvesting programs, and conservation campaigns across all districts. Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) in all 75 districts have been appointed as nodal officers to lead and monitor the campaign.
Principal Secretary (Forest-Environment) Anil Kumar stated that all sapling species will be pre-selected, and photographs and MIS data of plantation sites will be uploaded to the Meri Life portal. District Plantation Committees will ensure coordination with various departments for plant protection and maintenance.
Cleanliness Drives and Anti-Plastic Campaigns
According to Mission Director Deepak Kumar, on September 17, a minimum of 100 saplings must be planted in each Nagar Van-Vatika. In addition, cleanliness drives will be held at government offices, forest depots, zoos, safaris, and other public spaces. A major focus will be on banning single-use plastic.
The campaign will also feature cleaning efforts in bird sanctuaries, environmental workshops, and nursery action plan seminars in every forest division. District-level intellectual dialogues under the themes of “Viksit Bharat” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” will focus on forest conservation, biodiversity, and greenery. DFOs will also take part in fairs and exhibitions being organized across districts.
