Security Guard Dies After Gate Accident at Delhi Hostel Construction Site

The CSR Journal Magazine

A tragic incident occurred on Sunday at an under-construction hostel located on KG Marg in central Delhi, resulting in the death of a 50-year-old security guard. The victim, identified as Dharampal, was reportedly on duty when a sliding gate fell on him at approximately 5 pm. This unfortunate event prompted a swift response from local authorities.

The Parliament Street police station received notification about the incident soon after it occurred. Officers were dispatched to the scene where they found Dharampal trapped and injured beneath the gate, requiring immediate rescue efforts.

Rescue workers managed to lift the sliding gate off Dharampal, subsequently transporting him to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. It has been reported that he was unconscious upon arrival and later succumbed to his injuries, as noted by a senior police spokesperson.

Details of the Incident

During initial investigations, it was revealed that Dharampal was working alongside his co-worker, Brijesh Tiwari, who is 54 years old. The two men had been assigned their duties from 9 am to 9 pm. Tiwari provided crucial information regarding the circumstances leading up to the accident.

Tiwari stated that earlier in the afternoon, around 12:30 pm, two electricians were conducting electrical work on the sliding gate, which had already been installed at the construction site. Suddenly, the gate unexpectedly collapsed towards Dharampal, resulting in him being trapped beneath it.

The gate’s unexpected failure is currently under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities indicated that the mechanics of the gate’s collapse were not immediately clear, necessitating further examination of the events that transpired prior to the accident.

Legal Action and Investigation Progress

Following the incident, a crime team was dispatched to the site to conduct a thorough investigation. Police have registered a case in accordance with Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to causing death by negligence. This legal framework aims to address accountability in situations where individuals may have succumbed due to careless actions.

The authorities are keen to establish the precise factors that led to the gate falling. Eyewitness testimonies, along with further scrutiny of the construction protocols and equipment used at the site, will play a vital role in determining the circumstances surrounding this tragic occurrence.

As investigations continue, police remain committed to ensuring that all relevant details are uncovered to prevent similar incidents in the future. The workplace safety measures and adherence to operational standards at construction sites are expected to be closely examined following this event.
