Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold Restocks in Limited Quantities

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, initially launched in South Korea on December 12, 2024, has faced a rapid decline in availability. Following its introduction, Samsung reportedly decided to cease sales in South Korea after three months and was expected to follow suit in the United States once existing stock was sold out. However, the company has now announced a limited restock of the device in the US, beginning on April 10, 2025, available through its online store and select physical retailers.

Physical stores across various locations in the US, including Cerritos, CA, Bloomington, MN, Elmhurst, NY, Garden City, NY, Glendale, CA, Houston, TX, and Frisco, TX, will reportedly receive only one or two units each, which indicates a restricted supply. The online store is anticipated to provide a slightly higher number of units, though still limited.

Challenges Behind the Device’s Production

The discontinuation of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold has been attributed to the challenges of its complex manufacturing process. Reports from Bloomberg indicate that the device’s triple-folding design requires sophisticated components and intricate hinge mechanisms, contributing to higher production costs. In addition, escalating memory prices and broader geopolitical issues have reportedly hampered the manufacturing process.

This smartphone has faced obstacles not only in production but also in its market positioning. Launched at a high price of $2,899 (approximately Rs 2,68,100), the device was largely out of reach for average consumers, targeting primarily affluent buyers and technology enthusiasts. The company suggested that the device served as more of a demonstration of its engineering capabilities rather than a product aimed at widespread commercial success.

Despite these challenges, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold was notable for its innovative design. With a unique triple-fold form factor, the device can expand into a tablet-like display of roughly 10 inches. Its high-quality LTPO AMOLED screen is designed to support a refresh rate of 120Hz and offers peak brightness up to 1,600 nits, enhancing user experience.

Specifications and Features of the Galaxy Z TriFold

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is equipped with features that appeal to high-end users. It houses a 5,600mAh Li-ion battery capable of supporting 45W wired charging, which solidifies its status as a premium device. The overall weight of the smartphone is approximately 309 grams, making it relatively manageable given its unique design.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, ensuring high performance in processing capabilities. Moreover, the camera system includes an impressive triple rear camera setup with a 200MP primary sensor, complemented by a 10MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. For capturing selfies and video calls, it is also equipped with a 10MP front-facing camera.

This combination of specifications allows the Galaxy Z TriFold to stand out in the competitive smartphone market. However, its high price and the complexity of its design have raised questions about its long-term viability. The limited restock may serve as a final opportunity for interested consumers before the device is ultimately phased out.
