PM Modi Hosts Seychelles President Patrick Herminie in Delhi, Focus is on Maritime Security

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Monday and and delegation-level talks, discussing bilateral issues. Prior to their meeting, President Herminie paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, reflecting the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.

In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “Honouring Bapu’s enduring legacy and universal ideals. President Dr. Patrick Herminie of Seychelles paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Gandhiji’s enduring principles continues to guide and inspire India-Seychelles partnership.”

Discussion on Bilateral Cooperation

President Herminie arrived in New Delhi on Sunday, following engagements in Chennai and Mumbai as part of his state visit to India, which is scheduled to continue until February 10. This visit marks his first trip to India since he took office in October 2025, coinciding with the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.

During his time in Chennai and Mumbai, the Seychelles President interacted with various stakeholders in sectors such as governance, health, industry, and coastal management. The aim was to foster bilateral cooperation between both countries. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the strategic significance of Seychelles to India, describing it as an essential maritime neighbor and a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR.

Future Engagements and Key Meetings

Throughout his stay in New Delhi, President Herminie is scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu and engage in discussions with Prime Minister Modi. These discussions are anticipated to concentrate on enhancing bilateral relationships while also addressing regional and international issues that are of mutual concern.

Focus on Healthcare Collaboration in Chennai

While in Chennai, President Herminie, accompanied by Seychelles Minister of Health Marvin Nolan Fanny, met with Ravi Pachamuthu, Chairman of SIMS Hospital. They deliberated on a collaborative framework aimed at fortifying healthcare services in Seychelles through sustainable long-term solutions. Key initiatives discussed included super-specialty medical outreach and the development of hospital infrastructure, along with advancements in digital health integration and affordable medications.

Strengthening Maritime and Economic Ties in Mumbai

In Mumbai, President Herminie met with India’s Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal. They also held discussions at the India-Seychelles Business Roundtable, focused on exploring investment and collaboration opportunities. These engagements are designed to strengthen maritime trade, the blue economy, and promote sustainable development between the two nations.

The visit underscores the ongoing commitment of both countries to deepen their ties and work collaboratively across various sectors.
