In a bid to implement the Gaza peace plan, Israel has announced that the first batch of seven hostages held by Hamas has been released to the International Red Cross in northern Gaza. The peace deal, brokered by the United States, calls for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel and the release of thousands of Palestinians imprisoned in Israel. Following the agreement, the delivery of humanitarian aid to the famine-stricken Gaza Strip is also expected to resume.

The two-year-long war between Israel and Gaza may finally be nearing its end after both sides agreed to the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan during indirect talks held in Egypt last week, with Qatar and Turkey acting as mediators.

Israel is currently preparing to welcome President Trump, who is set to arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv on Monday morning. He will be received by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to the White House, Trump is expected to meet the families of released hostages and address the Israeli Parliament (Knesset). Later, he will travel to Egypt to attend a Global Peace Summit with regional and international leaders, where the ceasefire deal will be formally signed.

Under the current agreement, Israeli forces will withdraw from Gaza City to a designated “yellow line,” allowing hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians to return to their homes—many of which have been reduced to rubble.

In the meantime, armed police units inside Gaza City and southern Gaza will take charge of maintaining order and securing aid convoys in areas where Israeli troops have retreated.
