The CSR Journal Magazine

In a shocking incident in Pali district of Rajasthan, a 59-year-old woman and her two sons were found dead inside their house. This incident happened in Ashapura township, one of Pali’s posh localities. Residents discovered the bodies late Thursday evening after the family had been locked inside for over two hours.

Did the family commit suicide?

Police officials said the elder son, Narpat Lal, 34, was found hanging from a ceiling fan. Mother Shanti Devi, 59 and younger son Raghuveer, 26 were found dead, lying on the ground. A suicide note has been recovered, confirmed Deputy Superintendent of Police Madan Singh. Two mobile phones and a bottle of poison were recovered near the bodies.

Preliminary findings indicate the family was going through a tough time and took this step. However, nothing concrete has been found, and the investigation is underway, police are examining all possible angles to draw a conclusion.

Depression, Isolation and Distress Calls

The elder son Narpat Lal was battling a prolonged illness and had been depressed for a while; however, these claims are yet to be verified by authentic sources. According to a family member, Narpat was in severe depression and had previously attempted suicide, he had wounds on his body.  The family member also shared that about 8 months ago, Narpat quit his job at an oil company and has been staying home most of the time since then.

A day before the tragic incident, he called his cousin Laxman around 11 a.m. and asked to be taken to the hospital because his condition was not good. But when Laxman called him back, his phone was unreachable. One neighbor, Saurabh, stated in his account that Narpat had also called him and asked to be taken to the hospital. Narpat even mentioned that his phone would be switched off and asked Saurabh to come directly home, however, due to other commitments, Saurabh could not visit Narpat.
