Chennai, India: Aarti Shukla is raising INR 17.5 crore for the treatment of her 14-month-old daughter Shivanshi Mishra, diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 2. The disorder has left her with delicate health and respiratory challenges. Shivanshi’s relentless spirit and the unwavering dedication of her parents have spurred a campaign to raise funds for her life-saving treatment. So far, 819 generous donors have contributed more than INR 29 lakhs to help save baby Shivanshi’s life, yet there is a long way to go.
SMA is a rare genetic disorder affecting motor neurons, leading to muscle weakness and limited movement. Shivanshi’s battle began at just 11 months after her birth when she faced difficulties in sitting, walking, and crawling. After seeking several medical opinions, a definitive gene report confirmed SMA Type 2, urging immediate intervention.
Zolgensma, a gene therapy, has emerged as the ultimate beacon of hope for Shivanshi. However, the treatment comes with a considerable cost of INR 17.5 crore. The family has turned to medical crowdfunding as a means to raise the hefty funds for her treatment. Furthermore, the doctors have recommended administering the therapy before Shivanshi turns two.
Presently, Shivanshi remains at home with her parents who are leaving no stone unturned to ensure her comfort and care. To aid her respiration, she receives nebulization every four hours, while night splints have been attached to her legs during sleep to prevent deformity. For improved breathing, she relies on the support of a BiPAP machine. Though her health condition has not shown significant improvement, these measures help her stay stable and active.
In the face of adversity, Shivanshi’s mother has displayed incredible strength by quitting her job to be her daughter’s constant companion and pillar of strength. Shivanshi’s father, despite being away for work, has rushed back to India to focus on her betterment. Together, the entire family is united in their pursuit of giving Shivanshi the best chance at life.
“Our world revolves around our beloved daughter, and we will do whatever it takes to get her treated. We’ll move mountains to see our little angel smile again. Every step she takes is worth a million more to us. Your kindness and generosity will help bring back the joy of laughter in Shivanshi’s life,” says Aarti.
Let us all join hands in solidarity with the Mishra family and stand beside little Shivanshi on her journey towards recovery. Together, we can help this beautiful young soul get back on her feet and embrace a brighter future. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, can make a profound difference in Shivanshi’s life.
